A Michigan woman found out that she had been kidnapped and killed in Iraq when an AP reporter called her house to get comments from her husband.

A woman was shocked to learn Friday that a photo of what appeared to be her old driver’s license showed up on an Islamic Web site along with a claim that she had been captured in southern Iraq and slain.

"It’s kind of scary," Perryman, who isn’t in the military, said in a telephone interview from her home.
The posting claimed that an American officer named Dawn Marie Stone, which is Perryman’s maiden name, was captured about three weeks ago. The claim was accompanied by a photo of the driver’s license, which had her maiden name, her birth date and an address in Flint that she previously lived at.
"I have no idea as to how it would get into Iraq," Perryman said.
Weird. The story goes on about some Kuwaiti guy she dated in '84. I hadn't heard anything about this woman at all. To me in order to get this information they either had to hack into a DMV computer (not as likely), have an inside helper (better guess) or have somehow obtained her old discarded license (best bet). Since they displayed her license on the website it would seem that, instead of trying to make a fraudulent one, they'd have an easier time going with the trashed route from when she got her name changed after marrying.
