Yeah, he's probably done some good in setting things up at the Department of Homeland Security. That's all fine and good. What about 10-13 million illegal aliens running around our country and the 4000+ that run across our border everyday with no way of knowing who they are? So, I can't congratulate a guy who wouldn't try and secure our borders during a time of terrorist activities occurring worldwide.
Good riddance Ridge.
AP
Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge, whose name became synonymous with color-coded terror alerts and tutorials about how to prepare for possible attack, resigned Tuesday, saying he was confident the United States is significantly safer than before the 2001 terrorist strikes.
...
As the nation's first chief of the new Department of Homeland Security, Ridge presided over a collection of 22 disparate federal agencies and 180,000 employees. He acknowledged he could not prove the enormously expensive and complex security measures put in place since 2001 have foiled any terrorist attacks inside the United States but said he was certain America was safer.

We live 9 miles north of the border. My wife and I can assure you that NOTHING is being done to stem the tidal wave of illegal immigration. The invation is continuing.

A few months ago, I heard Asa Hutchinson (Ridge's assistant) give an interview for a San Diego radio talkshow. He tapdanced all around the illegal immigration issue. The talkshow host tried to nail him down as to why the illegals aren't rounded up and deported. Hutchinson wouldn't give a straight answer even though he was hard-pressed for over 10 minutes. I once thought he was a standup kind of guy, but he is no different from other worthless beurocrats who don't want to rock the boat.
Bush is intent on keeping the illegals here. Hell, they are slave-labor and probably keep the economy growing.
