You remember Wassef Ali Hassoun, he's the Marine that was a deserter, then a hostage, then a deserter and brought back from Lebanon to face charges? (See my December
entry and
Spoons Experience for more on the backstory) Well guess what, he's a deserter again. It seems that they actually let him go home on leave for the holidays after all the crap they went through overseas and he hasn't shown back up.
Naval investigators continued a search ... for missing Marine Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, who surprised his family, attorney and military officials by not returning from a holiday leave to face charges that he deserted his unit in Iraq last summer.
Hassoun, a 24-year-old Muslim with dual Lebanese and American citizenship, failed to return to the Marine base at Camp Lejeune, N.C., ... following an authorized holiday.
Baldilocks brings up the conspiracy theory angle, that he was let go in order to track him.
Cold Fury asks
Any bets on what Islamist terror group this guy’s eventually going to turn up in the company of?
Other Commentary:
In The Bullpen who has some excuses Hassoun can use for why he didn't show up.
Michelle Malkin has a lot more to say about this guy.

Ref my post, after 20 years in the US Navy I tend to lean towards the "military intelligence oxymoron theory." And they actually believed this guy would return from holiday leave.
