Arizona's Proposition 200 provision requiring a valid proof of citizenship in order to vote went into effect on Tuesday making it the first state (of many we hope) to implement such a requirement.
Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Arizona has become the first state to require proof of citizenship when registering to vote, a measure that supporters say is intended to prevent voter fraud.
The law went into effect Tuesday after being approved by voters in November. It requires that people provide proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, when registering to vote and show specified forms of identification when casting a ballot at a polling place.
Arizona Republic
Under old requirements, officials did not verify citizenship of voters who simply checked a box and signed a registration form affirming they were U.S. citizens.
Yeah, that was secure in making sure people were citizens. You may find that hard to believe, but that's how it currently is in many states. Most people against these laws decry that they are racist. If verifying that people who are voting are people who are allowed to vote and citizens of this country is a racist measure then I'm racist.

Any prop that makes it harder on illegals to live here has my support.
Any prop that makes life harder on criminals and drug users has my support.
Ballots should not be mailed and no lottery should be given to voters. If you are not greatful enough for democracy to get your lazy ass to the polls without a financial incentive, I don't want you voting anyway.
