As I covered last week, the effigy of a hanging soldier was not an isolated incident for the Berkeley couple Steve and Virginia Pearcy. I have acquired a couple exclusive photos of the couple's car from a reader. They are clearly anti-American and anyone who had any doubts as to the real purpose of the hanging effigy on the side of their house can pretty much confirm it by looking at the enlarged photos.
There are other allegations against the Pearcy's that should make all of you screaming about their freedom of speech take pause. From this article over at Miller's Time regarding a woman who called a popular local radio show, Armstrong and Getty, we discover that freedom of speech for the Pearcy's is only if that speech agree's with their beliefs.
The story, however, does not begin there. This morning Armstrong & Getty had a young woman call into their show who used to rent this home from Steve and his wife. Before the election they placed a 8x10 sign in the front window for Bush - Cheney 04. Someone called Steve and he in turn called this young woman to inform her that he and his wife would be in town the following weekend to do one of two things:
- Place an over-sized Kerry sign on the lawn
- Paint the house in support of Kerry.
...
The following weekend Steve and his wife arrived and began to work on the house. The young lady decided to go out while they were there and upon returning home found that instead of options 1 or 2 listed above, the Pearcys decided to but up a huge hand painted sign on the lawn that read "Only an Idiot votes for the Idiot." It was also that weekend when they decided that their home would display an allegiance to Saddam's regime.
There is more over at Miller's Time.
Last week there was a candlelight vigil protest outside the home. Over 400 people showed up, including some that supported the Pearcy's.
KXTV
The gathering was organized as a protest by Move America Forward, a conservative organization that supports the war on terror and American troops. A roughly equal number of individuals showed up in support of the homeowners' right to free speech.
The three-hour gathering was vocal, with First Amendment supporters on one side of Marty Street and those who oppose the effigy on the other. One of the latter was Mike Ferreira. "The effigy that they hung up was disrespectful of our troops and being a veteran I was deeply offended by that," he said.
Glenda Thomas believed that the Pearcys, who put up the anti-war displays, have the right to express their views. "I support the Constitution which the people across the street don’t seem to do," she said. "The president doesn’t even seem to do much to support the Constitution."
...
The Pearcys told News10 in a one-on-one interview later in the evening that their displays expressed their opinion that President George W. Bush is responsible for the deaths of American troops in a foreign country. The couple emphasized that the display was not meant as a sign of disrespect for soldiers themselves.
That's all fine and dandy, but by the obvious hatred expressed on their car it is not only a statement that Bush has blood on his hands but that you should burn an American flag, hate Jews and Israel, hate the police and funnily enough SUV drivers even though they drive a Porsche Boxster.
There is no doubt that you have a right to express yourself in this country, but others also have a right to not be threatened, incited to violence or enemies abetted by your speech. Steve and Virginia Pearcy clearly feel they are the victims in this case, but I conclude from all of the above and the other incidents that they are just lunatics trying to get attention. I hope for all of our sakes that it backfires and they are alienated by their idiocy.

Interestingly, they don't believe in paying taxes either. The California license plate on the Boxter expired in MAY 2003.(!) Curiouser and Curiouser.

Clearly members of the downtrodden masses. Instead of paying $90,000 for that car, why didn't they give it to a soup kitchen or something?

Kevin, FYI..a Boxster is nowhere near 90K...they start around $43K for the 2005 model.
I wonder how many times their Boxster has been keyed? I'd run a screwdriver down one side and back up the other in a heart beat if I saw it.
Do the slime balls have the right to spout their hate? Let's all say it at once, "Yes". But do we have a right to voice our considerable majority voice against their hate? Damn skippy.
I cannot even begin to imagine the unhappiness that fills these people's lives. Perhaps they should read more Hunter S. Thompson.

Thomas Jefferson once shot a man on the Whitehouse lawn for treason. Sounds like a plan.

Alienated as in their business and careers.

I just learned from annika! that Virginia Pearcy had graduated with her law degree at age 20. So I guess she must be bright when it comes to 'book larnin but I guess she is pretty stupid when it comes to common sense.
I hope the citizenry votes with their pocket book and boycotts Ms. Pearcy's employer.
Ms.Pearcy might hate America, but I'll bet she will hate unemployment even more.

My god, she's an associate with Orrick. Unbelievable.
As for her husband, I'm glad to see that he found something to do with himself after Ratt broke up.

Umm..."runs" is not the appropriate verb. Stephen is much too slow. "Jogs" seems more accurate for this middle-aged piece of shit. Isn't that bastard about 50?

I suppose I'm one of the few who thinks these nuts aren't even worth the attention being given to them. This just encourages other idiotic-like-minded-socialists to want to copycat this type of thing. Let the idiots have their fun in the sun, our government and it's soldiers have given a lot to let them express how much they hate our way of life.

The Pearcy's are right on most counts:
-"FUCK BUSH": "Tex" and big oil have ruined the lives of hundreds of thousands of Americans; specifically, the dead and wounded, and their families and friends, not to mention as many Iraqi lives (I want to cry when I see images of wounded Iraqi children: their lives, too, ruined because Chimpy McFlightsuit lacks patience and diplomacy).
-"FUCK THE POLICE": every profession has its bad apples; bad police get more publicity because it usually involves someone's rights being violated. That said, I don't think any member of American society deserves more respect than a good cop.
-"FUCK THE US GOVERNMENT": well, just the Republicans, actually.
-"FUCK ISRAEL": I can't comment, since I have no idea what this bullshit (read "religion") quarrel is about.
-"FUCK SUV's": I tend to agree, but I have a strong impulse to disagree with hypocrites (a Porsche driver dissing SUV's!?)
-"BURN AMERICAN FLAGS": I just don't get this one: because it has no purpose here, it seems to undermine any credibility the previous remarks may have had.
-Could someone please explain to me this "Move America Forward" group's purpose? It seems to me that supporting the war on terrorism and supporting the troops is the "default" position, which begs the question, "Wuddup?" I mean, I've never seen a "Pro-Wipe Your Ass" group form, simply because such a position is a given. What do they think supporting the troops involves, anyway? Do they think being, essentially, pro-war is supporting the troops? That’s just supporting the war, which is also known as war-mongering. I bet any troop in Iraq or Afghanistan would say, “You wanna support me? End this fuckin’ pointless war and get me the fuck home!” What, do you think sending cookies to the troops really helps them? Every responsible, thinking American should be wholeheartedly against this occupation. I'm sorry: I think I’m ranting, but I could go on for hours on how fucked-up Bush is, and still not finish. Please write your congresspeople, and state your point of view. Take care.

Seems to me it would be fun to decorate the houses around their Berkeley home with THEM being hung and claim it's our freedom of speech.
Who the hell bred jerks like them?
