I've been watching the new Battlestar Galactica on the SciFi channel since it started. Sometimes I find it overwritten and the characters a little weak, but this week everything changed with the episode "The Hand Of God". What an exceptional episode! The episode centered around a daring attack on a Cyclon base. It was like watching a full-blown movie on my TV with action galore and special effects that would rival anything in the upcoming Star Wars movie. The characters have really developed out well and I'm happy that it has been picked up for a second season.
A lot has changed since my initial reaction to the show and I'm happy to say it's all been in a good direction. My initial dislike for the female Starbuck character has dwindled since she has been knocked down a few pegs and now seems more realistic as a character rather than a spoiled prima-donna.
The others have grown as well with Baltar easily being my favorite. The internal struggle of a character has always attracted me and he has the greatest of all of them. Even more than the Boomer character on the planet who knows she's a Cyclon. I just wish they could change the way Baltar is influenced and not make it all about some sexual mind play with the blond chick.
Either way I'm pleased with it's progression and I do now wait weekly for the next episode (and yes I know it can be found online, but I prefer to wait).
I've always asked the question, when finding other movie freaks in my travels, what's your favorite movie of all time?.
Then I changed the question to what movie have you seen the most times, deliberately ?
People quickly caught on , and started reflecting the question back to me.
Up until now, my answer was "Groundhog Day". Don't ask me why.
But I recently got a TIVO unit and my answer has changed.
The new answer ?
BattleStar Gallactica, the epidose "The Hand of God."
Fucking brilliant.
