Some States May Just Ignore Real ID Act If It Is Enacted

Bookmark and Share

Some Governors and state representatives are saying that they may ignore the Real ID Act, which sets federal standard and requires more verification for issuance of driver's licenses, if it is enacted. Using fear tactics that people will have to stand in 1000 person lines and maybe have to come back 2-3 times in order to get a drivers licenses, Governors like Mike Huckabee of Arkansas are calling on other states to protest it by not enforcing it.

Newsday

"Governors are looking at all their options. If more than half of the governors agree we're not going down without a fight on this, Congress will have to consider changing this unfunded federal mandate," said Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, vice chairman of the National Governors Association. A Huckabee aide said the options include court action.
I understand their point that the expense of implementing a system of checking the documents is a slight burden. I think the federal government should allot monies to pay for some of it and the rest should be put onto the taxpayer in the form of a slightly higher fee.

I'm willing to pay a higher fee is this goes into effect and has the ability to secure our country just a little more. Just outright calling for your state not to follow federal guidelines and not exploring your options is just being an asshole. I'm looking at you Huckabee.

Wow, you honestly think that the real ID is going to cure and solve our problems? In my opinion this goes direct to the source at the hands of those who willingly and knowingly hire, and harbor illegals. If I had a guess you are probably one of those who got bent out of shape about the wire taps, well this exceeds that. I say no to real ID, and yes to enforcing the legislation that we already have to deal with securing our borders.

REAL ID as a silver bullet for illegal immigration? Give me a break. The American public would never stand for this scheme unless they were hoodwinked tht it was the solution to illegals. Get a clue: the same people pushing REAL ID at the DHS are the same ones who won't build a fence!
