I have no idea why this is such an issue. English is the unofficial language of America and it should be its official language. The burden should be on the individual to get their own translation if they refuse to assimilate into the population. Requiring the taxpayers that already live here to continue to fund the printing and translation of every document into 150 languages is a ludicrous demand that should not be something the government should have its hand in. I'm not sure what the numbers are, but these states that continue to whine how they don't have enough revenue would save a bundle by not having to continue this ridiculousness.

Gov. Janet Napolitano vetoed a bill Monday that would have made English the state's official language and required that government functions be conducted in English.
Supporters say the measure was needed to encourage assimilation of immigrants, while opponents say the bill (SB1167) wasn't so much about protecting English as it is an attack on illegal immigrants.
Nearly seven years ago, a similar voter-approved law making English the state's official language was overturned. The law, approved in 1988, was declared unconstitutional by the state Supreme Court, which ruled in 1998 that the change violated free-speech rights.
Why would an attack on illegal aliens be a defense for not approving this bill -- unless of course you approve of illegal aliens. Once again we see that the peoples wishes are ignored by some ridiculous legislators who somehow see this as being a free speech issue. No one said you had to only speak English, they said that the burden is on you if you don't speak English to provide your own means of translating and understanding it.

Making english the official language would "violate free speach rights"?
HUH?
Did I miss where they'd prohibit any other language?
I spent two years in Rota, Spain and they didn't have not one english sign even a block from a major Naval base, I taught myself enough spanish to get by. I'm sorry that I don't have pity on people who've spent their entire lives living in America, and can't understand english.
Lo f*cking siento mujados.
