The proposals would have given authority to local law enforcement to enforce immigration law and would have denied in-state tuition and child care for illegal aliens.
On the other hand she signed a bill that bars local taxpayer funds from being put into day labor centers that help illegal aliens find work.
Washington Post
"While I agree that public programs should not be available to those who consciously decide to come here illegally, this bill goes too far by punishing even longtime residents of this state who were brought here as small children by their parents," the governor wrote.
Arizona has been dogged by a heavy flow of illegal immigrants since the government tightened enforcement in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego during the mid-1990s.
While immigrants provide the economy with cheap labor, Arizona and other states shoulder huge health care and education costs for illegal workers and their families.
Republican Rep. Tom Boone, sponsor of the immigrant-restriction bill, said it's wrong to let immigrant students take advantage of in-state tuition when out-of-state students who are legal citizens must pay more to attend college in Arizona.
"The illegal immigrant has in Governor Napolitano (his or her) best friend in the state," Boone said.
...
Also Friday, the governor signed into law a bill that bars local governments from putting taxpayer money into day labor centers that help illegal immigrants find work.
I've been having a hard time getting a grasp on this Governor. On the one hand she seems to take a stand against illegal aliens and on the other she seems to encourage it. Take a stand already and stop pussy-footing around Governor. You can't have it both ways.
"Republican Rep. Tom Boone, sponsor of the immigrant-restriction bill, said it's wrong to let immigrant students take advantage of in-state tuition when out-of-state students who are legal citizens must pay more to attend college in Arizona. "
Huh?
Unless I'm mistaken, out-of-state students (citizen or not) have paid more in tuition for decades!!!! Hello?! McFly?!

He's obviously saying that US Citizens should be receiving benefits, such as lower college tuition, before we're giving it to some criminal illegal aliens.
Nice try though deccles ;)

I beleive if you put every employer that employes an illegal alien (canadian or mexican) in prison for 5 years they would not hire them any more. There would be no jobs for the illegals and they would have to go home for work. I do not want to spend my tax money on illegals children or health care. I have a hard enough time paying for my own. I is time to act and start putting the people who hire them in prison. fines do not work because you just pay and keep hiring the illegals. Prison will work no one wants to sit in Jail. It is time to impeach the Arizona Governor. Halalooya.
