(Burlington, Vermont) On Tuesday, St, Albans Police arrested four foreign nationals for suspected illegal alien smuggling. Details are sketchy on this story.
From WCAX.com:
Acting on an alert from the border patrol, city police stopped a car with four foreign nationals inside. Two citizens of Moldova and two Pakistanis were turned over to the border patrol and are being held pending trial.
About 25 miles north of Burlington, St. Albans sits a mere 15 miles from the Quebec border so it's logical to assume that someone saw these people drive into the U.S. from Canada at one of the less secure border crossings. It follows that the Border Patrol was notified and they alerted local law enforcers.
It would be nice to know if these citizens of Pakistan and Moldova were in Canada legally or if they were let in based on forged documents. Either way, I'm not at all comfortable with how easy it is for foreigners to enter Canada and then the U.S. My gut tells me that they are at extremely low risk of being caught coming across the northern border.
