Borderlands, USA
A hazy New Mexico sun shines through the dust clouds as we drive towards the international boundary on Sunday, September 25. My guide is Dr. Clifford Alford, manager of New Mexico Border Watch, an independent, state-level “Minutemen” organization.
I embark on this trip primarily to gauge the local perspective on issues related to border security and immigration. I am armed with questions. What is it like to live next to the southern border? Is the region really as crime-ridden and insecure as reported? Additionally, I want to measure my own assumptions and opinions against reality.
