Dallas School District Wants To Hire Illegal Aliens To Be Bilingual Teachers

Bookmark and Share

Well this is taking employers hiring illegal aliens to a whole new level. The Dallas Independent School District, under trustee Joe May, wants to hire illegal aliens to be teachers of bilingual classes. What the hell kind of laws do these people read before they make these decisions and proposals? It seems like none as it is definitely illegal to hire illegal aliens in any circumstance.

It turns out there's more to this story than it appears though. See below for more on who this Joe May is.

Dallas' school district has a shortage of bilingual teachers.

DISD trustee Joe May knows where he can find a lot of people who speak Spanish fluently and are already in the country. And he'd like to put them to work.

But there's at least one big hurdle: The school district cannot knowingly hire illegal immigrants because it's against federal law.

Mr. May wants to amend that so the district can hire illegal immigrants who are college-educated and can qualify for the district's emergency teaching certification program. The issue will be discussed at the school board's policy briefing

...

"We're paying for DISD people to go over" to other countries to recruit bilingual teachers, Mr. May said. "It makes sense if we set up shop over here. We can build an employment base in our own market."

...

Federal officials responded Monday to questions about Mr. May's proposal by reciting the current law.

"It's illegal to knowingly hire or continue to employ illegal aliens," said Carl Rusnok, regional communications director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. "Unless you're in this country legally, it's illegal for you to work."

Under federal law, employers who knowingly hire unauthorized workers face criminal prosecution and substantial fines.

joe-may-2.jpgLonewacko points out that in Joe May's bio for the board that he is the former two term President of the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a proponent of illegal aliens. So this is not a simple "needs" issue it is a political decision under the guise of a "needs" issue.

Joe May was elected to the Board of Trustees in August 2002, and serves on the Board’s Policy and Education Committees. He was elected as second vice-president in May 2004.

...

Mr. May’s history of community service in the Dallas community includes two terms as president of the League of United Latin American Citizens

Sometimes things aren't always what they seem. This Joe May has his hands in other areas including zoning and the Small Business Association. I wonder how many of these places he has also pushed through proposals on getting more illegal aliens into the country and hired?

This is what we face in this country. People benefiting by pushing through items that break our laws and destroy opportunities for American workers.

Hello, I am an American Citizen born here in the USA. I applied to DISD for one of those 400 jobs. I have an MBA education. After the initial process, I have not heard back from the DISD and my references have never been contacted. I wonder if that is because illegal aliens are getting those jobs. I see the President today 05/18/2006 supporting illegals and their "apparent right" to stay and work in the USA. (The deadline for these jobs is tomorrow) I just hope that I did not lose a job to someone who is not a citizen.

I have been teaching PreK and K for 27 years. I received a letter this summer telling me that a Bilingual teacher will be teaching my class in the mornings and I will be sent to the Alternative High School. Last year I taught 33 children. 13 were ESL. I am certified ESL and we had a great year! By the end of the year I had 2 children I might say could use backup support. (One had come later in the year) We have free bussing to them for a program already established in our town. All ESL children were offered summer school. Only a few needed it. On the other hand I was put off when I asked about my non ESL children who really needed summer school. Not one got to go. Our taxes paid for this. I love every child in this situation. I have done my best for so long to remain neutral. But what is happening in Alvarado is very wrong! I should not be displaced because I speak English in America. And children who need help should not recieve help based on language but rather on need.

My husband is one of the ESL teachers at DISD, and he taught summer school this year too. I can assure you not only the ESL children recieved summer classes, but every child who didn't aprove.

I really think I must post this because there are a lot of uninformed groups rejecting ESL teachers, ESL children and everything related to them because comments like the last one. I think talking about "being displaced in the US even being an american" is too much.

The only subject that non-English-speaking students should be studying is English. It is the language of our nation.

The only place that illegal aliens should be is getting on an airplane to be deported.

Joe May tries to make the balkanization of the USA, caused in large part by illegal alien work thieves' presence here, into the necessity of hiring the illegal aliens to teach their anchor babies. Just another step toward amnesty.

Mr. May, take the doors off your home and see how long it is until you call the police to have the illegal "immigrants" removed from the premises. If you are open borders, prove it by opening your home to anyone who wants to come in.
