By a vote of 47-22 the South Dakota House of Representative has passed a bill that would ban abortions. The outrage is that others tried to include amendments for cases of rape, incest and the health of the mother, but all were rejected in the end. Now the bill heads to the State Senate.
This is absolutely ridiculous and while I am not in favor of rape, I do hope that it happens to one of these representatives -- or their wives or daughters -- so that they can face the suffering and destruction of their lives that some women in this country and in South Dakota face. I truly believe that these people operate in a bubble and do not look around at the realities facing others when they try to impose these laws.

Supporters are pushing the measure in hopes of drawing a legal challenge that will cause the US Supreme Court to reverse its 1973 decision legalizing abortion.
The bill banning all abortions in South Dakota was passed 47-to-22 in the House.
Amendments aimed at carving out exemptions for rape, incest and the health of women were rejected.
The bill does contain a loophole that allows abortions if women are in danger of dying. Doctors who do those abortions could not be prosecuted.
In the end if this does pass and if abortion is outlawed we'll just go back to the days of the underground coat hanger abortions that every American should be disgusted by. Just because you're all religious or moral and feel that you should impose your beliefs on others doesn't mean passing a freakin' law is going to change anything.
All you'll end up doing is forcing even more horror and uncertainty on these women, some through no fault of their own and possibly facing health concerns, to face an unwanted pregnancy.

Thanks for making my daily reading easier. While agreeing with much of this posting, the wish of ill, quote "while I am not in favor of rape, I do hope that it happens to one of these representatives -- or their wives or daughters -- so that they can face the suffering and destruction..." is beyond classless. Digger's Realm is now removed from my daily reading feed. You should be ashamed.

I'm just fed up with these "holier than thou" representatives that feel they can impose their beliefs on others when they don't even contemplate the damage that is done in cases of rape and incest. While I stated above that I hope they get raped, I really don't want anyone to be raped for real, but I saw no other way of getting my point across.
I see that I did get my point across in some ways though as it made somebody actually sit up and say "wtf! rape and incest is wrong you classless fool".
Thanks for reading in the past.

Sharon there are simply not enough people out there to adopt all of the abortions every year.
Look, fact of the matter is these lawmakers are not considering real tragedies. They're not considering what others are going through. They're sitting on some hill throwing down moral decisions and religious beliefs on others that may not have those same beliefs. This is America, not some theocracy where others tell you what to believe.
If it takes someone coming up to them and shocking them with a statement that makes them consider the reality going on in the world then so be it. If you think it's harsh to make them think about how they would feel if themselves, their wife or daughter were raped then you're living in an isolated bubble along with them.
Rape and incest does happen. Maybe it hasn't happened to you or directly affected you, but that doesn't give you the right to tell someone it has happened to how they should handle or react to the situation.
Them going into a hospital and having an abortion HAS NO AFFECT on you personally. Your life isn't going to change. You're not all the sudden going to be at a loss. "Holier than thou" to the extreme.

yes, there are more than enough to adopt.
Don't be so ignorant. Do a google search for the children of rape who were allowed to live, and you will find both mothers and children are very happy with the decision to NOT abort.
Third, you are 100% WRONG: Section 3 of the South Dakota bill allows for massive contraception to be given to keep the egg from implanting in the wall of the uterus in the case of rape. They did not call it a "rape exception" but that is what it is. If you have been raped, you can go to the doctor and they can give you large doses of contraceptive medication.
They did not call it a rape exception because in the past, doctors and patients had conspired to call it a rape when it wasn't.
