I just saw something on the local news here in Austin that turned my stomach. They are playing the sympathy card for the illegal immigrants. The reporter went on and on about how these poor people were hiding out, afraid to go shopping, for fear of getting picked up, with the recent busts of illegals. At the end of the report, the reporter made a comment about how President Bush has brought illegal immigration into the spotlight and made them live in fear.

I almost dropped the glass I had in my hand!

You don't think that maybe all those brown skinned people crawling out of the wood work and marching on our streets demanding the same equal rights as LEGAL Americans, just might have brought some attention to them? Truthfully, I believe that seeing those marches made the American people take a look around and ask "When in the hell did they all move in?"

I am a Black American and fell that this is not a race issue but the rule of respecting the law. The law needs to be upheld or people will not respect the law. This is including immigrants. Why should illigal immigrants not have to obey the law but when an American breaks the law the justice system prosecute them to the fullest.

we all talk about how the illegal immigrants are driving down the wages funny how i've had 8 different cna's where i work as an lvn and all american black, white, also two hispanics and guess what they said they were only there until there food stamps cases got approved or until there TANF checks were to come in. Even one went as far as to tell me that she's been on welfare for 14yrs and she could show me the ropes on how to lie to the system. Now i know many immigrants who work hard at 5.15 an hr and the cna's who work with me make 7-8hr. so don't give me that the illegal immigrants are driving down the wages because they prefer to work more than the many americans here who only want handouts. maybe if we had alot americans who would work and not sit on their asses.

This is a race thang! Legal Americans are catering to the Hispanic race. Look at any products you buy today, and it is written in Spanish and English. Why is that? Because Hispanic people stick together and complain, complain, complain.

Democrats in California passed a bill so Hispanics could "walk out" of work on May 1st and NOT lose their jobs. Had a black person did this, one would have been 'fired!'

In Florida, Spanish and English is the spoken language. Elementary schools thru high schools are being taught in English and Spanish! Again, white and black people are paying taxes to educate their children in bilingual over crowded education system in American. Illegal immigrants do NOT pay taxes! Hispanics can learn English for free at local community colleges, but white and black people can not learn Spanish for free. Why is that? I'm a black medical receptionist, but can not locate work in Florida, because I do not speak Spanish! Employers want you to be bilingual.

In California, Florida, and Michigan, hispanics have tried to pass a bill to make Spanish the spoken language in certain cities. Hispanics stick together with their race! This is a threat against other races. Hispanics want to rule the United States, because they feel they were here first. They want more illegal immigrants in the U.S. to over populate the white and black races, and make Spanish the spoken language in the United States. It is time to take a stand, and join forces to fight against illegal immigration. Illegal immigration is serious stuff. Research online regarding bilingual education, bilingual work place, democrats supporting illegal immigration, and come up with your own conclusion. We have been mislead and ignorant long enough, time to make a stand! May 1st was a threat to legal Americans.

Why are illegals marching and protesting when they have the same rights as citizens they have all the benefits that legal americans have and they are not legal what do they want?

I'm African American and it is indeed heartening to see fellow African Americans, along with aware whites, the threat that the hispanic illegals represent. They are an incredibly selfish group of peoples and their insurrection must be put down post haste. Employers must be felonized for hiring them, a fence must be built along the length of the southern border, no guest worker program and mass deportation must be instituted, pronto.

I am glad to see that African-Americans are fighting against illegal immigration. The pro-illegal have been trying to confuse the issue by hitching on to the civil rights movement.

I know an African from Ghana, I assume here legally, that was teasing me that most of the pro-amnesty people were white. I had to admit that, yeah, most of the people at those pro-illegal rallies seem to be white college students.

I did get him the next day as we were looking at a website and we saw that an illegal from Ghana made up a Twi version of the Star Spangled Banner. This was a man who I think said was in the US for 15 years illegally.

Now this is truly interesting; blacks are joining whites in the fight against illegals.

History will judge it as: The white interlopers took the land from the natives, brought black slaves, emancipated them after killing millions and subsequently joined forces to further destroy the NATIVES by calling them illegals.

Hopefully, history will not be: The natives from North America, Central America and South America joined forces in 2050 to expulse all the the NON AMERICANS from the continent. Millions of Caucasians, Africans and Asians were slaughtered. Atomic bombs could not be used, the US Armies Hispanic soldiers turned and joined forces with their brethen from the south and the north.

It may come for those without NATIVE blood and of course blacks are part of it. If they wish to join forces against Latinos maybe Latinos need to recognize them as our enemies and fight them in EVERY part of this continent not just the USA.

Were she a sentient being, Lady Liberty would drop her torch in disgust, bow her head in shame, and erupt with tears. Portrayed as the gatekeeper to freedom and opportunity, the sad reality is that her beacon of hope has drawn many into the predatory system of American Capitalism, providing the White wealthy elite of the United States with cheap, easily disposable cogs for their machinery of profit powered by human suffering.

Smugly convinced of their moral superiority and inalienable right to world domination, America’s ruling White Patriarchy (and those of the White working and middle classes who choose to support them) have now decided they have an immigration problem. Too many “little Brown people” are streaming across their borders.

Already feeling overwhelmed by the “cultural contamination” and diminished White power resulting from rising populations of “savage” Blacks and Hispanics, the White Americans who still desperately cling to the absurd notion that they sit atop the peak of human evolution are desperately demanding further draconian measures to protect them from their “inferiors.”

To assuage the fears of their privileged constituency, America’s de facto ruling class is wrangling with numerous potential solutions. Yet thus far, they have overlooked the obvious: ask the Native Americans what to do. After all, the White invaders who forged the American Empire nearly drove the indigenous people of North America to extinction.

At the very least, the relatively few survivors of the Native American Genocide could help their White “superiors” put their comparatively minute problem into perspective by reminding them that things could be much worse.

While the Caucasian invaders merely murdered and displaced hundreds of thousands of Native Americans and held millions of Africans in chattel slavery as they exercised their “divine right” to build their “Christian,” Capitalist Empire, many of today’s brown-skinned “marauders” are committing such heinous acts as working hard, exercising a devotion to family, and living decent lives.

Wearing their psychological shackles with delight, the White Americans who truly believe in the myth of their superiority provide unflinching support for a government of war criminals, Social Darwinists, and state terrorists seeking to subjugate, suppress, or eliminate the “Dark Threat” posed by Blacks, Latinos, Native Americans, and Middle Easterners. While some of the indoctrinated may not be conscious of their allegiance to evil, they are just as culpable as those who are.

Fueled by a compulsion to consume, unwavering “patriotic” support of a militaristic regime drenched in the blood of millions of murdered civilians, narcissism, xenophobia, racism, and an insatiable demand for exploiting the rest of the planet to keep them comfortable, the American Empire’s loyalists are demanding an end to the “Southern Invasion” of illegal immigrants. Long-term oppression of Blacks, Latinos, and Native Americans persists as Arabs and Persians find themselves targets of a pernicious racism born of ignorance and blind acceptance of government propaganda related to the “War on Terror.”

Sadly, hubris, racism, torture, state terrorism, and unsurpassed avarice are the hallmarks of a nation which purports to be a bastion of freedom, justice, human rights, and equality. Fending off the fierce blizzard of facts exposing the United States as a ruthless empire, the purveyors of the American Myth doggedly indoctrinate their minions with a relentless argumentum ad nauseam that the United States is a benevolent haven for humanity and liberty.

Monsters are monsters (regardless of their ideology)

Just as several attempts to implement Communism have resulted in human suffering and totalitarianism, America’s brutal form of Capitalism is also an abject failure for humanity, registering quite high on the misery index. Few would argue that the United States affords a robust standard of living to many of its citizens, but how much of humanity really benefits?

The 295 million people of the United States account for a mere 5% of the world’s population. A tiny fraction (about 2,950,000 individuals) of that meager sliver of humanity feasts on a herd of fatted calves. Meanwhile, 3 billion human beings are left to gnaw on the leftover bones, clinging to survival on an income of less than $2 per day.

Despite its abundant resources and wealth, the Empire even neglects some of its own. 13% of Americans live below the official poverty line. Over a million Americans are homeless, many of whom are children, untreated mentally ill individuals and military veterans. Ironically, the homeless veterans proudly served their country. As a reward for their loyalty, the Empire cast them aside like sacks of garbage.

American Capitalism comes complete with a dose of significant racism. 25% of American Blacks and 22% of Latinos are poverty-stricken while 91.4% of the privileged White majority lives above the poverty line. Three-fourths of White American families own their homes, while fewer than 50% of Blacks and Latinos enjoy that “luxury.” Shorter life expectancies and significantly higher infant mortality rates amongst Blacks, Hispanics, and Native Americans reflect the superiority of health care available to White America.

Economic progress by Black Americans in the early Twentieth Century was severely retarded by vigilantes, lynchings, and the decimation of entire communities, like “Black Wall Street” in Tulsa. After years of struggle to attain civil rights, Hispanics and Blacks today face less visible yet still formidable socioeconomic barriers, including substandard public education, a serious dearth of opportunities to enter universities and higher paying jobs, and an Apartheid-like system of deteriorating urban cores populated primarily by Blacks and Hispanics surrounded by affluent White suburbs.

Consider that the Capitalistic economic engine of the American Empire, which benefits a thimbleful of the world’s 6.5 billion people, was built through mass murder perpetrated against Native Americans and the profoundly evil enslavement of our Black brothers and sisters. Devouring half of Mexico in the US invasion of Mexico in 1846, the Empire expanded its land mass significantly. And American Capitalists have exploited cheap Latino labor for many years.

Further perpetuated by the exploitation of the working class during the Gilded Age, the juggernaut American economy is now maintained by the cheap labor of illegal immigrants in the United States, the gross exploitation of workers in corporate America’s offshore sweat shops, decreasing regulation of corporations, and an ongoing assault against the American working class including massive layoffs, union busting, and job off-shoring.

In a gross perversion of justice, those human beings who have contributed the most to America’s wealth have benefited the least.

Obviously, one cannot change the past, but one can learn from egregiously immoral behaviors, make amends, and work to change. It is evident that the devoted White Capitalists of the American Empire have no intention of mending their ways.

There are White Americans who support minority rights and social justice, but their efforts are often crushed by the influence, power and propaganda of a White-dominated system and culture.

Despite the false dichotomy presented by the government and the mainstream media, there are choices beyond the totalitarian Communism of Stalin and Mao and the unfettered greed and imperialism of American Capitalism. It is a moral imperative and a pragmatic necessity that the United States begin to strive for a more equitable distribution of wealth, stronger government regulation of corporations (to minimize their crimes against humanity), and socio-economic justice.

Intolerance, Bigotry and Racism

Beneath the noble rhetoric about equality in America lurk the sinister realities of racism, bigotry, and ignorance. America’s extremist Christians persistently fight to deny rights to homosexuals and women while supporting the ongoing state terrorism committed by the US and Israel. The Klan and other White supremacist groups have been making a powerful resurgence by recruiting youth via the Internet and popular culture. A federal government which collects massive tax revenues (and which is charged with providing for the general welfare of its people) committed passive mass murder and criminal negligence in New Orleans, where virtually all of the victims were poor Blacks.

Despite some progress, many Blacks and Hispanics still find themselves desperately grasping for the bottom rungs of the socioeconomic ladder. The wealth gap between Whites and minorities is a chasm, with White families averaging ten times the average net worth of Blacks and Hispanics.

American criminal justice is served with a heaping side of discrimination. As of June of 2004, 2,531 out of every 100,000 blacks and 957 per 100,000 Latinos were in prison. Compare that to the 393 of every 100,000 White Americans doing time. Over half of US death row inmates are Black or Hispanic. Amongst the 38 states still practicing state-sanctioned murder, 98% of their prosecutors are White. Curiously enough, the prosecutor is the one who makes the decision whether or not to pursue the death penalty. And let’s not forget that minorities seeking clemency often encounter men like California’s “Terminator.”

For many outside of the “inner circle” of America’s White Patriarchy, the United States is not the land of opportunity; it is a land of economic and social brutality.

Paul Revere rides again

America’s ruling class created their own immigration problem. Now Congress is contemplating draconian solutions which will cause more human suffering. How typical for the leaders of the Empire and their lemming-like supporters. Spurring Congress to take action, a repugnant vigilante group calling themselves the Minutemen now patrols parts of the southern border of the United States. They are armed and dangerous.

While the Minutemen are endorsed and supported by White supremacist groups, they claim they are simply there to help the US government protect America’s borders from potential terrorists, criminals, and immigrants carrying diseases.

With the Minutemen crying, “The Mexicans are coming! The Mexicans are coming!” the White Establishment and their collaborators are debating several severe measures to deal with the latest threat to their domination of America’s society, economy and government.

Some of their proposals include the erection of an Apartheid wall, the arrest and criminal detention of 12 million illegal Hispanic immigrants, and criminalizing the act of helping illegal immigrants. One of the more “humane” measures under consideration involves granting temporary guest status to Hispanics who have established themselves in the workforce.

How generous to “allow” them to continue working in dangerous, miserable conditions (i.e. meat-packing and produce harvesting) for low pay and minimal benefits, living with the knowledge that once their physical health is in ruins, their Capitalist masters will toss them out of the frying pan and back into the fire of the abject poverty of their homelands.

Banish them or exploit them?

Representing the Hispanic illegal immigrants who have established residence in the United States, millions of Latinos and their supporters have engaged in a number of protests around the United States over the past few weeks. Their moral outrage is justified in the face of the entrenched power structure’s bid to criminalize millions of hard-working human beings and to punish compassionate people who help them. Some amongst the Empire’s White masters seek to relegate the “Wretched Refuse” to the landfill.

Meanwhile, corporate champions (i.e. George Bush), whose greed supersedes their racist, xenophobic tendencies, are taking a more pragmatic malevolent stance. They want to find a way to keep illegal immigrants in the United States as “temporary guest workers” to provide the cheap, submissive labor corporate America craves. With the Thirteenth Amendment preventing outright slavery, the leaders of America's Corporatocracy are not about to let these indentured servants slip away so readily. One man’s “Wretched Refuse” is another man’s treasure.

Self-inflicted wound

Living in deep denial, the American Empire is blinded to its culpability in creating the immigration problem. By enabling US corporations to build manufacturing facilities in Mexico starting in the early 1970’s, the Empire’s Capitalist masters set themselves up for a mass exodus across their border while simultaneously betraying their own working class.

While the US factories in Mexico maintained miserable working conditions and paid a small fraction of what they were paying American workers, impoverished Mexicans flocked to work for them. Unfortunately for the Latinos, a substantial number of the American businesses closed up shop and moved on to other countries once they found cheaper labor pools. Many of the closed factories were close to the US border, leaving large numbers of unemployed Mexicans living near states like Texas and Arizona. Who can blame them for risking illegal immigration to escape their miserable situations?

Furthering its illegal immigration woes and deepening the plight of the American working class, the United States accelerated the movement of US corporations onto foreign soil by passing laws such as NAFTA. Utilizing neocolonial and imperial tools like the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, CIA support of dictators friendly to US corporate interests, state terrorism, and invasion, the Empire has parasitically drained the people and resources of developing nations.

Besides subjecting the citizens of other nations to abject poverty, the Empire has slaughtered millions of innocent civilians with its behemoth military machine, and is continuing this pattern in Iraq. Employing the lessons of its early history, the United States enthusiastically enables Israel in the genocide of the Palestinian people.

Perhaps Shawn Sugg of the White power rock group Max Resist voiced the suppressed racist beliefs quietly held by those who work vigorously to perpetuate Caucasian domination when he sang:

“Let the cities burn, let the streets run red, if you ain’t white you’ll be dead.”
Stop the killing and share the wealth

Why wouldn’t people flock to the security and prosperity of the Empire?

After all, the rest of the world is a dangerous place. An imperialist United States sitting on the world’s largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction has run its “collateral damage” count into the multi-millions, has declared that it is above international and humanitarian law, and claims its right to invade nations in preventive strikes, not unlike a man shooting his neighbor because he believes the neighbor might be a potential threat.

Since 25% of the world’s resources flow into a nation of only 300 million, some of the other 6.2 billion human beings are bound to show up on the Empire’s doorstep begging for food and resources.

American Capitalism and the American Empire are blights on humanity, particularly outside of the United States. They render far more damage to the rest of the world than to those living in the United States, which explains why a small number of Americans expatriate while millions of immigrants flock to this nation. Paradoxically, people are streaming into the United States to escape the United States.

The bitter irony is that once immigrants arrive in America, most of those who have too much skin pigmentation and fail to adopt the “infinitely superior” White Culture find themselves victims of economic and social servitude.

Applying a band-aid to a gaping wound

Congress will pass a law which will put a bandage on the immigration problem, but the wound will not heal. One piece of legislation will not come close to addressing the myriad underlying causes.

Ultimately, America’s increasing trajectory toward a more brutal form of Capitalism coupled with a rapid acceleration of the American Empire’s quest for global hegemony will continue catalyzing the influx of immigrants. Until the White American elite and their brainwashed adherents end their tenacious and destructive efforts to fashion the Earth into a “White man’s world,” they will continue to be plagued by an onslaught of “little Brown people” whose cultures are “downright un-American.”

If the truth be told, the whole U.S. nation are the world's house servants, even minorities to some degree. I think that the immigrants should be here, deserve rights, respect, and everything else,don't really give a shit about the minutemen, but most Latinos are not our ally. As for Anthony Miranda, Latinos and other immigrants are just as nonchalant about issues concerning blacks as the other way around. As for calling for extermination of blacks, when this great day of extermination comes, there will probably be enough of us ready and willing to kill a portion of these zealots waiting to kill us. It great that Latinos work hard and weld, but they, white people, or other immigrants do not have a monopoly on work no more than anybody else. Latino immigrant are not excessively unique in the work department. They are are one group of a list of people that came as indentured servants, slaves( both Black and Native American), cheap immigrant labor.Immigrants themselves are more and more protesting shitty wages that force them to live 50 to a house. Do they have an entitlement mentality? And when they are possibly cast aside in mainstream employment, precisely in years to come because they protested for a basic living wage,whose to say they won't be proceived as a group of lazy parasitic, welfare getting cheats more than they are now-and just like us. And really, if everybody in the Third World and parts of Europe had such a stellar work ethic and is just the epitome of everything black America is not, why aren't the economy a little better. Cause all the smart, ambitious, creative immigrants are here. As a U.S. citizen, I will concede that most political,economic,and cultural issues facing people are the result of U.S. predatory policies, and other institutional practices.

To average White American anti-immigrant advocate, much of your anti-immigrants complaints stem from the same sense of entitlement that that is responsible for the cause of shredding of the social safety net. Many anti-immigrant supporters do not care about the unemployment of blacks because if they did, our unemployment rate would not be as high as it is with or without immigrants. Many of you hate welfare and affirmative action simply because it helps blacks. This anti-immigrant hysteria is a continuation of that. If the First World working class wasn't so antagonistic towards the Third World working class( which partly explain the varying standards of living) we could not be so easily used to stab each other. As for domestic minorities, particularly blacks, white bosses have always used immigration as a way to keep us in our economic places and they continue to do so now. Nevertheless, thanks to discrimination, racism , poverty, prison records, substandard schools by design and other institutional/structural/personal factors, many of us still would not be hired with or without the influx of immigrants. So Blacks should question the motives of these policies and continue to build an economic base of our own. Alot of white people talk like they care about blacks like normal Americans but where was this concern when companies moved jobs to the surburbs at the expense of the innercity. Or when blue collar workers of color lost thier jobs in the 80's.

There are 3-4 million illegal aliens crossing the southern border each year. There are only thousands coming through other methods such as Cuba.

Some people are worried that amnesty will give illegal aliens the same rights that American citizens have. In reality, it will give the illegals more rights than the average American citizen.

A sheriff's deputy in Georgia was killed on his way to work this morning in a traffic crash with two suspected illegal aliens.

Deputy Loren Lilly, who had been with the Cobb County Sheriff's Office for 18 years, was pronounced dead at the scene after his Honda Accord flipped several times after being struck by a Ford Taurus.

"No one ever likes to roll up on an accident with anyone deceased on scene, or serious injuries," Marietta police officer Casey Camp told WXIA-TV. "Obviously, being in law enforcement, none of us wants to roll up and see one of our fellow officers or deputies on the scene as well."

Witnesses say the driver and passenger in the Taurus ran from the scene. Police later arrested the two, 27-year-old Joel Perea, and 23-year-old Maurilio Herrera.

Perea is charged with felony vehicular homicide, hit and run, failure to maintain a lane, and driving without a license. Herrera is charged with false report of a crime.

They're being held at the Cobb County Jail, and police say federal immigration officials have placed a hold on both.

The Ceran family, active in local theater and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, were returning home after attending a performance of Dicken's "The Christmas Carol," which featured several family members, when their car was struck by a truck driven by Carlos Prieto. The crash killed Cheryl Ceran, 47, and two of her children, 15-year-old Ian and 7-year-old Julinna. Cheryl Ceran's husband, Gary Ceran, 45, and their 19-year-old daughter, Clarissa, and 12-year-old son, Caleb, were injured.

Eduardo Raul Morales-Soriano: When this illegal alien, working as a landscaper in Maryland, killed Marine Cpl. Brian Mathews, 21, and his date, Jennifer Bower, 24, on Thanksgiving night, 2006, it wasn't his first accident where alcohol was apparently involved. Nine months before, he was issued four citations and sent home with a friend after a single-car accident when he refused a Breathalyzer test. A policeman's error resulted in Morales-Soriano – who took advantage of North Carolina's easy rules to obtain his driver's license in 2004 – getting his license returned. On the night he killed the young couple, police say his blood alcohol level was measured at .32 – four times the legal level in Maryland for intoxication. Mathews had served 8 months in Iraq and completed another tour of duty in the Pacific.

Jorge Humberto Hernandez-Soto: Police say was driving more than 100 mph on the wrong side of Interstate 485 when he collided head-on with the car of 18-year-old Min Soon Chang, a freshman from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, killing him. According to authorities, the illegal alien had already been sent back to Mexico 17 times and convicted of impaired driving at least a couple of times before the November 2005 crash.

Jose Trejo Encino

Jose Trejo Encino: The 27-year-old illegal alien from Mexico admitted to deputies, at the scene of the November 2006 single car accident that killed one of his passengers and injured another, "to drinking a 12-pack of beer earlier in the night," but not before first trying to throw the cans of beer he still had in his car into the woods before police arrived.

Luis Oscar Garcia

Police said Garcia had a strong odor of alcohol on his person and that his pants were soaked with a liquid that indicated the presence of alcohol when he ran a red light and killed 18-year-old James F. Rogers Jr. of North Jackson, Tenn., in August 2006. The 24-year-old Mexican had been living in the U.S. without a green card for three years.

Marcos Ramos Medina: The 35-year-old Mexican had twice been deported when, on Aug. 4, 2005, his car swerved several times across the center line, causing a tractor-trailer rig to jackknife in Yakima, Wash. His car then plowed head-on into the 2000 Lexus driven by Peggy Keller, 53, dean of distance education at Yakima Valley Community College, killing her at the scene. Medina, who was found to have at least eight aliases and falsely identified himself at his first court appearance, escaped serious injury. The case against the Mexican national was declared a mistrial in August 2006 because his constitutional right to remain silent had been violated. It took a second jury only 30 minutes to find Medina guilty three months later.

Pastor Rios Sanchez: Despite having pleaded guilty to driving without a license in 2005, and similar counts in March and April of 2006, Sanchez was still on the road on Oct. 27, 2006, when he crossed the yellow line near Sanford, N.C., and collided head-on with a stationwagon carrying Helen Meghan Hughes, 22, of Summerville, S.C., Jennifer Carter, 18, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Hughes' stepbrother, 16-year-old Ben Leonard. All three were killed. The 55-year-old illegal alien was allegedly drunk and carrying a forged residency card.

Ramiro Gallegos: In July 2005, Gallegos had already been charged on three separate occasions with drunk driving. His fourth offence caused the death of Scott Gardiner of Mount Holly, N.C., a father of two young children, when the Mexican citizen's truck struck Gardner's station wagon as he drove his family to the coast for vacation.

Vitalina Bautista Vargas: Neighbors of Louella Winton said the van driven by Vargas, an illegal alien from Mexico, never slowed down before plowing through Winton's home, knocking the 91-year-old woman, who had been asleep in bed, against the wall of the house next door and leaving her under the vehicle outside the house. Winton died of complications from her injuries.

As WND has reported, the mayhem on America's highways isn't limited to illegals who drive only while intoxicated.

Little caution, critics say, is being exercised when it comes to preventing mayhem on America's highways as the country witnesses record high numbers of unlicensed, unregistered, uninsured drivers – millions of whom are illegal aliens.

While no one – in or out of government – tracks traffic accidents caused by illegal aliens, the statistical and anecdotal evidence suggests many of last year's 42,636 road deaths involved illegal aliens.

A report by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Study found 20 percent of fatal accidents involve at least one driver who lacks a valid license. In California, another study showed that those who have never held a valid license are about five times more likely to be involved in a fatal road accident than licensed drivers.

Statistically, that makes them an even greater danger on the road than drivers whose licenses have been suspended or revoked – and nearly as dangerous as drunk drivers.

Some activists say King is being linked to a cause that may encourage illegal immigration.

A holiday known for solidarity rallies and peaceful marches is a forum for debate this year as immigration issues become the focus.

This week's Martin Luther King Jr. Day events include a speech from a renowned Chicano labor activist, a movie and discussion of that movement, and a forum on immigrants' rights.

"It is my belief that if (King) were alive today he wouldn't make a distinction between documented and undocumented people in terms of how they are treated in their pursuit of life, liberty and happiness," said Wally Webster, interim chairman of the city of Lynnwood's Diversity Commission.

Webster's commission organized a panel discussion on immigrant rights, scheduled for tonight at Edmonds Community College.

The current immigration debate mirrors the issues of the 1960s, Webster said. The similarities were never more apparent than when thousands of immigrants around the country left their workplaces to march last year to protest proposed immigration laws, he said.

"There are people who feel disenfranchised and that they do not have rights, whether you're talking about refusal to allow you to sit at a lunch counter or whether it's exploitation of labor," he said.

Others worry that King's message is being twisted to fit another agenda. King shouldn't be posthumously attached to a cause that could encourage illegal immigration, said Shawna Forde, a member of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, a volunteer border patrol group. Members of Forde's group plan to attend the forum to make sure that information presented there is accurate.

"We have a lot of respect for Martin Luther King Jr., and we don't like how (the holiday) is being spun this way," she said.

King fought against the injustices that force illegal immigration, said Enrique Gonzalez, of El Centro de la Raza, an advocacy center in Seattle.

"What injustices are being propagated for folks to have to immigrate against their will? They don't choose to come here, they have to," he said. "If (King) were alive, he would join hands right along with us."

Last year's marches seemed to herald the birth of a vibrant movement, but it quickly lost steam, said Bill Ong Hing, a law professor at the University of California at Davis who has written about the topic.

"The middle class of America understood the black civil rights movement in the South to be very important, and I don't think we're there yet in terms of the immigrant rights movement," Hing said. "It's not massively vibrant in the way the civil rights movement was."

Many Americans aren't aware of the Chicano labor movement that took on workers rights in the 1960s and 1970s, said Christina Castorena, who held a panel discussion about the movement at Everett Community College on Tuesday evening.

Castorena was on the Snohomish County committee that invited Dolores Huerta to speak today. Huerta led the Chicano labor movement, founding the United Farm Workers with Cesar Chavez.

"A lot of people are aware of the civil rights movement and they think of it as predominantly an African American movement," Castorena said. "But parallel to that, on the west side of this country, was the Chicano civil rights movement, and it's not widely known."

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a chance to educate the public about the role immigrants played in a nationwide transformation, Castorena said.

"There are Latinos who were born in this country who have made a contribution to American history," she said.

Look, illegal aliens drive down wages, pure and simple! Produce was picked in this country for a long time. We invented mass crop production. California alone, feeds 2/3 of the world with its crops. Mexicans love to say that this is their country, but the fact is, both the Asians and Vikings were here before them. They lost a war with the U.S. and it’s time to move on. Maybe their ancestors did it, but if you blame it on the people of today, you’re just being silly!) If this was still Mexico, there would be no jobs, the people would have third world diseases, the buildings would be sloppily built & dangerous, and there would be trash all over the streets. The main reason why illegal immigration is so wrong: They come here because it’s not Mexico, then at the same time say it still is. Does that make sense? They are trying to have their cake and eat it too! They come here for free social services. They don’t really pay taxes unless of course, they steal a citizens social security #, and that’s another felony on top of just being here. The Democrats and activists are pretty creative with this stuff, here’s how they work it. The loophole is that illegal aliens pay sales tax when they buy something at the store. If you listen carefully, you will rarely ever hear an immigrant activist say that undocumented workers pay income tax, just tax. We pay more of course, but they don’t want to remind us of that. And even a European tourist pays sales tax!

Even when they do income pay taxes, they’re still a net loss. Why? Because they have children and those children get free education. In fact it costs between $12,000 -20,000 per year to educate everyone of them (depending on what area of the U.S. it’s in). If you think any of these aliens pay that much in taxes, you’re crazy!

The San Francisco Chronicle reported on June 11, 2007 that Cecelia Munoz, a top Washington advocate for the National Council of La Raza, argued vehemently against opening immigration “to anybody in the world” because experts and, obviously Ms. Munoz, believe a point system could open new channels to African immigration.

Despite the fact that my eyes are telling my brain that this is what the women said, I am still having a hard time believing it. Where is that loudmouth Sharpton in this mess and why isn’t he out there screaming bloody murder?

The National Council of La Raza was allowed to sit in on the back-door negotiations that resulted in the compromise bill. The Washington politicians who should have been representing the people of the United States were there to represent the government of Mexico and best interests of the illegal aliens. The black, white, red and yellow people of this country who are otherwise known as the legal residents and American citizens of this nation were not represented by anyone attending. The National Council of The Race (or La Raza) was allowed the privilege of having the final say as to whether or not the compromise proposal suited their best interests. However, now that the proposal has been amended in such a way as to mitigate the damage of the discriminatory favor they sought they are expressing their displeasure.

Mexican Nationals account for the largest percentage of legal immigration into the United States every year. 13.7% of the total 1.5 million legal immigrants allowed to enter our country come here from Mexico. Beyond the fact that the people of Mexico are already favored by being allowed to make up the largest single group of individuals authorized to enter our country, there is also an approximate 700,000 Mexican Nationals entering this country illegally every year thanks to our negligent federal government.

Advocacy groups like the National Council of The Race, who represent the criminal invaders coming into the U.S from Mexico went to Washington and demanded an even greater degree of unfair advantage for their fellow Hispanics by demanding that our government legally accept the 20 plus million illegal aliens as well as the 13.7% annual legal immigrants. This would represent a favorable increase in immigration from Mexico amounting to 113 times greater than the annual yearly limit or if you like percentages more this would be an increase of 1030%. It would be inconceivable for most people to try to imagine how they could improve a favored status of this magnitude and yet, the National Council of The Race has figured that one out as well. They want to maintain their 13.7% annual rate of legal immigration, legalize the 20 plus million illegal aliens and allow an additional 400,000 workers from Mexico to come into the US every year on a guest worker program that could inevitably result in citizenship, meanwhile they don’t want the federal government messing up their United States by opening up immigration to this country and allowing any other ethnic groups to come here and possibly upset the status quo. They very idea that the politicians in Washington would dare to consider allowing an increased number of immigrants from Africa is completely insulting to Cecelia Munoz and her fellow Hispanics in La Raza. This is simply amazing.

Immigrants from Africa make up only 9.3% of the total immigration into the United States. They settle in diverse localities instead of clumping together in massive numbers, however, there are large concentrations of African immigrants from Nigeria, Ethiopia, and Ghana in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and there are large populations of African immigrant in Washington D.C. as well as in New York City. They assimilate rapidly and tend to have a fairly high degree of educational attainment in comparison to quite a few other groups. African immigrants are known for their entrepreneurial endeavors in this country. Their limited fluency in English and their foreign college degrees have made it difficult for many to secure employment and their response is characteristically to open their own businesses. They eagerly assist one another and are known for pooling their social and economic resources. Generally speaking, African immigrants are more than willing to come to the United States and work to make the America a better place for themselves and their children. They are willing to work for every thing they get and aren’t asking for special privileges or handouts from anyone.

If we are going to talk numbers when it comes to allowing people to immigrate here then it seems to me that those numbers should be equal in order to avoid any sort of discriminatory favoritism. In order to provide for this equality we need to stop all future immigration from Mexico for the next thirty to forty years while the rest of the world gets their chance to catch up.

How appalling it is for anyone to refer to the criminal Elvira as the Rosa Parks of her cause. She used her son and the church to further her cause of continuing to break our immigration laws.

Our government did not separate her from her son. She did that by choosing to leave him here further using him to get herself back into this country.

She entered this country illegally twice, used false documents and SS number in order to work. She is a convicted felon illegal alien. And according to our immigration laws she had to be deported. As if it isn’t bad enough that our presidential candidates are dueling each other on how many out of country trips they can take at our expense, using that precious fuel that there isn’t enough of so We must conserve then we have MSNBC, on Friday running a story about how those poor illegal immigrants either don’t know about the taxpayer funded benefits they could receive or they are just to afraid to claim them. Just about fits doesn’t it the taxpayer is told take on another job, cut down, don’t drive as much, don’t eat out as much, drive a smaller car but those who are almost elected are jetting around to any country they want and MSNBC is airing a laundry list of things you are eligible for if you made it across the border without getting caught.

Now you have to understand these are things the taxpayer cannot have, only fund. Take for instance food stamps - if the family of illegal immigrants has at least one legal person in their home they qualify for food stamps. The taxpayer who has fallen on hard times cannot get food stamps and you are going to love this part because they have a job, now if they have been laid off they only have to wait thirty to sixty days depending on how much their last paycheck was. And no it really does not matter if all of that check went to pay your bills either, but if you are in this country illegally and have just one legal person living in your home you can get food stamps.

MSNBC acts as though it is a crime that these people do not know they can further suck our economy dry, they talk about how these poor people are having trouble making ends meet, well welcome to the club. How many American citizens are feeling the pinch and all we are told is suck it up you’re an American, but not so the illegal immigrants whom we hear about coming here and working, doing the jobs we Americans will not do. You know the ones they keep saying are the backbone of America, the boon to our economy, the rock of our existence, that never take benefits and pay taxes, they are told the economy is slow so here is what you can get just for crossing the border and not getting caught.

They even go on to tell them that in some states such as Kansas they can get tuition assistance and even reduced rates, and in some states they can get drivers license, and workers comp., Hello! Would some one please tell me what country we are in because at this point I am just not sure anymore, this supposed article is nothing more than a thinly veiled PSA broadcast by both MSNBC and Telemundo. If this does not make you angry I really do not know what will, MSNBC is telling criminals what taxpayer benefits they qualify for, if they were telling people as a whole what resources were available to them if they were having trouble making ends meet because of the gas prices I would not have a problem, but they are telling people who snuck in our country in the dead of night that not only is it OK that they did that we are going to draw you a map to the nearest food stamp office.

This is outrageous, how many more slaps to the face do we have to endure from these so – called American media outlets? How many more times will we suffer through our presidential candidates telling us we need to cut back on fuel just before they board a jet? How much longer will we allow people like Nancy Pelosi and her democrat minions act as though we are the stupid ones because we want to drill in our own country? When you have to tell your kids I am sorry we have to cut back on the snacks because we just cannot afford it right now and the media is telling illegal immigrants hey need some help just ask, something is wrong. When you have to tell your kids that you can’t go to the lake because you have to cut back and then watch as Obama takes his dare from McCain to go to Iraq, something is wrong.

Something is wrong in this country, very, very wrong. The American people are suffering, American companies are suffering, when the farmers can no longer afford diesel for their equipment and trucking companies close down because they cannot afford the fuel what on earth will they tell us then? Where will we get our food? We are in serious trouble here and all our candidates can think about is what trip they will charge to the taxpayers this week and MSNBC is detailing what benefits are available for criminals, congress thinks we’re stupid and we just keep paying those taxes. california's black communities are hide out for illegal aliens. they have taken all the good jobs in the african american communities. they are the only ones that can afford to buy home in the black communities because 6-8 families live in a house design for 6 and some have converted the garages into homes. they have taken every job in the black communities and have refused to hirer african ameircans. they are the only ones driving new and luxury cars in los angeles and they constantly send their money back to mexico. ten mexican families put their food stamps together and suppies their food in their own resturants. fruits are being sold on the corner taco and tamale from their front yards thanks to foodstamps. illegal aliens are getting the prime job and blacks are getting prison, homelessnesss, uneployment, forclosure, jail, drug addicted from the drugs the illegals bring into this country, these are arrogant non socializing, selfish, greedy , non caring illegal mexican aliens. the white man do have to see them or deal with them because they throw them into the black communities where they are very prejudice and live amongst only other mexicans. the white will get it right, when in the next few years they take over their communities. the mexicans are greedy and will stop at nothing to take over this entire country. the only thing they like about the black man is his dollars. they will make sure that the owner of any businesses in the communities only hire them and their family members and friends. while 25% of the black community is crack addicts, the mexicans steadily bring drugs into the country via california. when there are programs placed in the comminity to help all such as utilities, food stamps free food , and welfare, they kick the blacks out of line jump to the front and put their friends and families in front of everyone else. toy and food were being given out in the black communities by black churches the illegal alian were pushing the blacks out of line of their own churches and bring their families and friends to the front of the lines to get these new toy and food, the black churches had sponsored. when ever they are given away money, foodstamps, medical, it is either shared only amongst them here or sent to mexico. politicians better wake up and run these roaches out of the black communities before all the black here get shipped back to africa. it is a wake up call, black politicians were always helping every race except their own ,the same as obama, and every other politicians make sure they help their own race first. that is the reason they became policitical is to help their owm people, and is why there are so many illegal aliens in this country. black peolpe must begin to think about themselves first or they will continue to pay taxes so that the illgal mexican can live in luxury, continue to prosper, bring their families to america, make blacks homeless, and disrespect blacks and show outwards animosity and disdain towards them and the blacks are still kicking their asses. when are the black going to learn this is a different color snake. that they are the black people enemies and they keep a lot of violence going on against black where ever they go. they are the police, the judges, the mayors, and anyone else in policical power. obama first reaction in california was to take up the mexican causes. he had never stated anything obout californias overcrowdied prisons which is dispropotionately black, black homelessness, unemplyment, medical. this medical program he wanted to pass would of first benefited illegal aliens. when will black americans get tired of paying taxes so that illegal mexican can live like gods, with 4 shopping carts in the grocery store filled with prime meats and vegetables, while blacks can afford a can of tuna. they utilized all of the housing programs, and you can get them out of this country they keep on multiplying because homeland security is paid hush money to allow illegals to cross the borders to dump their babies here to get free benefits and knock the black children out of the box. this is a subject that black children with working or strugging parent should learn in school. our children are paying for them to learn english, and get a upper hand on them because they will be bilangugle. wake up black people! the aliens will kick them in their asses as well as their children, grandchildren and every generation afterwards.

You people- white black or whatever color you are better wake up. I'm 45 years old and have been in the construction trade since 1983, remember those days when whites and blacks or blacks and whites ran the construction industry and we all made good money and had benefits along with could make a pretty good living on just 40 hours a week and anything else was a plus. I wish all legal people would stand up to the Government and tell them that your pushing us to the boiling point. I know that most blacks have issues with what happened long ago but you need to understand that most whites alive today had nothing to do with that and for that matter not all whites back then agreed with all the ? that was going on. I did see one post that states that blacks get hurt more than whites because of the illegals and I agree and know that for a fact because I never see any more black brick masons or any blacks on any of the jobs I go on. I'm also so sick of people saying, well they takes jobs that we wont take. This is a crock of ?, How can you even think of the American dream taking the kind of money they take along with they want no benefits because the benefits we would normally get but have to pay have for they get free. Republica del NorteALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A University of New Mexico Chicano Studies professor predicts a new, sovereign Hispanic nation within the century, taking in the Southwest and several northern states of Mexico.

Charles Truxillo suggests the “Republica del Norte,” the Republic of the North, is “an inevitability.”

He envisions it encompassing all of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and southern Colorado, plus the northern tier of Mexican states: Baja California, Sonora, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas.

Along both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border “there is a growing fusion, a reviving of connections,” Truxillo said. “Southwest Chicanos and Norteño Mexicanos are becoming one people again.”

Truxillo, 47, has said the new country should be brought into being “by any means necessary,” but recently said it was unlikely to be formed by civil war. Instead, its creation will be accomplished by the electoral pressure of the future majority Hispanic population in the region, he said.

Other UNM professors were skeptical

Felipe Gonzáles, director of UNM's Southwest Hispanic Research Institute, said there's a “certain homeland undercurrent” among New Mexico Hispanics who believe land was stolen and promises broken. But, he said, a new nation would need much more widespread support.

“Educated elites are going to have to pick up on this idea and run with it and use it as a point of confrontation if it is to succeed,” Gonzáles said.

Truxillo contends states have the right to secede under the Articles of Confederation of 1777, in which states retained “sovereignty, freedom and independence.” He contends the Articles were not superseded in that regard by the U.S. Constitution and that although the Civil War settled the question militarily, it was never resolved by courts.

History Professor Daniel Feller disagreed

“The Constitution does supersede the Articles of Confederation,” Feller said. “It takes no notice of the articles and is not presented as bearing any relation to them. The Constitution does not declare, recognize or in any way acknowledge the right to secede.”

And, he noted, the full title was “Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union.”

The U.S. Supreme Court said in 1869 the union was indestructible, political science Professor Joseph Stewart said.

He also said he was “somewhat skeptical in the sense of minority politics” about a possible Republic of the North. He said Americans of Mexican descent have moved all over the United States and that “I don't see that Hispanic population becoming more distinct but in fact becoming less distinct.”

Juan José Peña, Hispanic activist and vice chairman of the Hispanic Roundtable, said there's not enough political consciousness among Mexican Americans to form a separate nation.

“Right now, there's no movement capable of undertaking it,” he said.

Truxillo, who teaches at UNM's Chicano Studies Program on a yearly contract, believes it's his job to help develop a “cadre of intellectuals” to think about how it can become a reality.

Native-born American Hispanics feel like strangers in their own land, he said

“We remain subordinated,” he said. “We have a negative image of our own culture, created by the media. Self-loathing is a terrible form of oppression. The long history of oppression and subordination has to end.”

Truxillo said Hispanics who have achieved positions of power or otherwise are “enjoying the benefits of assimilation” are most likely to oppose a new nation.

“There will be the negative reaction, the tortured response of someone who thinks, 'Give me a break. I just want to go to Wal-Mart.' But the idea will seep into their consciousness, and cause an internal crisis, a pain of conscience, an internal dialogue as they ask themselves: 'Who am I in this system?”'

I was sad and horrified to see how the Mexican singer acted at the opening concert for the World Cup in South Africa. EVERY other perfomer sang about Africa and the joys of an event that brings people from all over the world together and honors the true diversity that exists--not just lumping white, brown, etc. but individual cultures. And of course in Africa, the home of mankind, and in South Africa, finally having put an end to apartheid, such a celebration was doubly wonderful. Every act was class--except the Mexican. Singing to a crowd of South Africans and people from all around the world, he started with "Chicano, Chicana", yelled "Latino", unfurled a MEXICAN FLAG, and yelled 'viva Mexico"! The USA is suppose to be a country of laws that we all have to follow, obey and live by. If you steal a piece of bubble gum and you are a citizen of this country you go to jail, but come to this country illegally, broke a major law, which is a felony you get a pass, citizen go to JAIL! They come here have babies, we educate their kids, paid for their medical, house their criminals, give them low rent, they take min. wage jobs from our youths, dirve without insurance,depress wages, don't speak the our language (English), we have to learn their language (Spanish), blacks & whites american most of the time will have to learn to speak English & Spanish just to get an interview,(and their is no work american want do at at living wage and BLACKS are not lazy). Then they march in our streets demanding their rights, please! You dam right we are pissed! Have you ever notice workers when the streets & freeways are being worked on, how many BLACKS or WHITES americans do see, not that many. Our country is hurting right now for jobs, I believe no american citizen should be out work when illegal have a job. There is a difference between LEGAL immigration and ILLEGAL immigration. If we held control in Mexico, built an army base right inside Mexico and kept a watchful eye of Mexico, we could have held their racist Reconquista government under control and we could have stopped all the hordes of Illegal Aliens coming down from the South.
