John Mark Karr a 41-year-old US citizen was arrested yesterday after confessing to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. I'm a serious crime buff and watch literally thousands of shows on killers, motives, forensics etc. One thing that I found rather amazing with the whole arrest of John Karr in this case is that the media instantly went from "suspicious family" to "we were all wrong!".
It always amazes me when the opinions of the media change on a dime.
But what real evidence is there -- that has been released -- that John Karr, a man who seems unknown to John Ramsey the father of JonBenet, actually committed the crime? There is absolutely none! The media has swung this around 180 degrees in a matter of hours and convicted John Karr on rumors of a confession and now a statement from Karr in Thailand that he was there when JoBenet died and that it was "an accident".
Well here's my theory. It has come to light this morning that the ex-wife of John Karr, who was living with him in Alabama at that time, says he was there with her when JonBenet was killed in 1996. So I ask the question, what is the motivation for John Karr to confess to this high profile crime?
He was currently under investigation for "sex crimes" which haven't seemed to be released to the press yet in Thailand. If John Karr was convicted of these "sex crimes" he probably faced serious jail time in a Thailand prison. This may have scared the hell out of him enough to find a high enough profile case to confess to that he would certainly be extradited to the US over the pressure of the public. Once here he would be stuck in a nice cozy US prison and appeal year after year rather than a horrible Thailand prison where I'm sure a white man wouldn't be treated with too much favor by the poor and downtrodden criminals there.
This is 100% my theory as I haven't heard it anywhere else via the media or online yet. I just find it incredible that someone out of the blue would confess after they'd gotten away with this crime for so long. There had to be an underlying motivation to do so and I simply don't buy the "guilty conscience" argument since John Karr seemed pretty thrilled with the media attention he was getting this morning. They were hanging on his every word as he said it was an accident.
In his confession he claims it was a botched kidnapping plot to demand over $100,000 from the Ramsey's. I think this is totally made up as someone who is going to kidnap a child for ransom doesn't rape them in the basement of the home rather than just killing them. We'll know soon enough of his guilt as there is DNA evidence in the case.
Sometimes people confess just for the attention, but in this case I think he saw it as his way out of an inescapable situation in Thailand.
Remember, you heard it here first!
Update: (1:30PM)
So 3 hours after I posted my theory I just heard it on Fox News for the first time. I've been watching all kinds of news this morning and this is the first time I've heard it on the air. I wonder if they picked it up from this post which has been linked to by a number of websites out there.

Ace of Spades jumps the gun and apologizes to Ramsey family before an actual conviction of a murderer. An arrest doesn't mean a conviction Ace.

So John Mark Karr's DNA does not match that found at the crime scene! Go figure.
Has anyone looked at the brother of John Mark Karr? I found some info (speculation I'm sure) that his brother had done work for the Ramseys back in the early 90's...?
Patsy struck more of a bad chord in my opinion...
I mean who dresses their little girl up like a prom queen and parades her around for adult viewing? And why did the Ramseys keep extra children's underwear in their house?(apparently not intended for their own children)
I too watch alot and I mean alot of true crime, and read alot of court documents, attend trials etc. and I smell a dead fish here.
My personal opinion? John Mark Karr is a psychotic necrophiliac who is sick in every sense of the word, but I don't think he was there, I don't think he had anything to do with it. I think he's a pathetic and lonely guy who is obsessed with dead little girls, this one in particular, and wants to be a part of the case in any way he can.
Oh, and he and his family seem awfully money motivated, don't they? a book? a movie deal? C'mon!
