Five Federal inmates -- all illegal aliens -- escaped from the East Hidalgo County Detention Center in Hidalgo County Texas last night. Escaping along with the illegal aliens was, Francisco Meza-Rojas, a former police officer who was convicted of being a part of the Meza Drug Trafficking Organization.

Meza-Rojas was a McAllen police officer in the early 90's.
In April, he and his four brothers were indicted on charges of smuggling, transporting and storing thousands of pounds of cocaine and marijuana for other drug trafficking organizations.
According to the indictment the loads of cocaine and marijuana were typically smuggled into the United States in an area south of Mission, between Granjeno and Penitas.
They are all still on the loose and a command post and door to door searches are being conducted in the area.
