Well, this is not good news for the world. It seems that it has been confirmed through geological seismic activity that North Korea has followed up on its plans to test a nuclear weapon this weekend. Notifying China 20 minutes in advance they detonated some sort of nuclear device that created a 4.2 on the Richter scale according to the USGS. China notified the US immediately after receiving word from North Korea of the planned test.
This will surely embolden Iran, make some in this world even more weak willed and proves once again that the UN is an utterly worthless organization. In addition, it proves that diplomacy with madmen is absolutely ridiculous. That 1994 agreement we made with them regarding nukes really has paid off hasn't it?
Sometimes you just have to use the stick, pansies.
Fox News
North Korea successfully tested of a nuclear weapon late Sunday night, a senior Bush administration official confirmed to FOX News.
The official said, however, that initial readings from South Korea reported only a 3.58-magnitude seismic reaction, which is smaller than what would be expected from the 4-kiloton explosion the Axis of Evil nation sought. The put the bomb's capabilities in context, a 20-kiloton explosion could conceivably kill 200,000 people... The U.S. Geological Service, however, said it detected a 4.2-magnitude tremor at 10:35 p.m. EDT, which could mean the device was potentially deadlier than initially believed.

If confirmed, the North would be the ninth country in the world known to have nuclear weapons. The other countries are the United States, Russia, France, China, Britain, India, Pakistan and Israel.
Look, even a 2 kiloton bomb could kill 20,000 people at once if the stats in the story hold true when reduced. If North Korea develops 5 of them, then who cares that each weapon has a low kiloton level. I've read again and again at other websites almost gleeful at the fact that the results were below their target of 4-kiloton. Hey people they still have a bomb, whether it's less than expected or not. Don't be so happy that they'll only have a 2-kiloton
Sheesh. There's optimism and then there's ridiculous cheer that they only have a 2-kiloton nuclear bomb
Confederate Yankee wonders the same thing as I do, if this result could be accomplished with conventional explosives?
