President Bush just signed the Secure Fence Act which authorizes 700 miles of border fence along the southern border. I watched as he stood there and tried to take credit for the bill saying that it fits in with his proposal of a guest worker amnesty and border security.
Then he went on to say that he still wants an amnesty, though he says his guest worker program is not an amnesty. In reality it is not an amnesty. It is a delayed amnesty where you can buy your citizenship for a few thousand dollars at a later date. Of course you'll be forgiven for all your lawbreaking for the time you were in the United States and you can just guess about how much in taxes you should have been paying since you've been here.
His program is really a damn joke.
This border fence act also looks like it will turn into a joke. Only half of it has been funded. There currently is no appropriations bill for the required funds. Apparently a back room deal has been struck to water down the fence and instead of making it a physical barrier -- as the bill states it is to be double layered -- there is already talk of making all or portions of it a "virtual fence". I already have covered why a virtually fence won't work, it's been tried before. So, now they think they'll try it again and have different results. Either that or they want a virtual fence because they know it won't work and they can allow tons of illegal aliens and potential terrorists in just like we have for a long, long time.
It seems nobody in Washington wants this fence except the very few. That will change when the next terrorist attack occurs because the border was left wide open. And all those sloths in Washington will be the ones to blame for playing politics with our security.
