New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, a man I am proud I didn't vote for after finding out what a dirtbag he was, is now looking at rewarding all of his Democrat friends. For those of you who are too new to remember why I didn't vote for this guy, all you have to do is go read up on how he treats indians on the reservations and this quote from the gubernatorial debates. He was asked if he would enforce a federal law mandating that states require proof of citizenship from Medicaid applicants. Here's his reply:
Spitzer responded: "I would not enforce that provision . . . I do not believe that it is the role of the state to be transformed into one big I.N.S. agent."
Spitzer added that he'd be prepared to issue an executive order similar to one in New York City, where municipal employees are forbidden to ask about an individual's immigration status.
What a great law abiding governor! Then just last month it was revealed that he is considering driver's licenses for illegal aliens.
NY Sun
During last year's gubernatorial campaign, Mr. Spitzer said he would permit illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses, arguing that banning them from driving worsened the lives of hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers without improving security.
...
In October, the Spitzer campaign came out firmly in favor of allowing illegal immigrants to get licenses. "The facts show that restricting immigrants' access to drivers' licenses does nothing to improve security," a spokeswoman for Mr. Spitzer, Christine Anderson, told the Associated Press. "All it does is drive immigrants into the shadows, creating a class of people with no public records."
Denying illegal aliens drivers licenses doesn't improve security? As the article points out the 9/11 commission found that the 19 terrorists who blew up the World Trade Center towers in New York had 35 licenses between them which allowed them to fly around the country, drive cars, get credit cards, take flying lessons, open bank accounts, receive money for their murderous plot etc etc etc... But New York doesn't need to worry about that anymore according to Eliot Spitzer, after all that was 5 1/2 years ago!
Now word is leaking out that Eliot Spitzer is involved in slush funds, paying off his Democratic buddies with grants in order to secure their voting support of his budget and his agenda he would like to get passed.
NY Sun
Governor Spitzer is planning to funnel millions of dollars in borrowed state money to Senate Democrats, who have been secretly asked by the administration to submit their wish lists for local capital projects, according to lawmakers.
...
For the past month, Senate Democrats have been submitting the paperwork for tens of millions of dollars in grants unbeknownst to most other lawmakers. There is no written agreement between Mr. Spitzer and the conference; the administration discussed the possibility of funding Senate Democratic projects with Minority Leader Malcolm Smith, who passed on the message to conference members at a private meeting.
As Captain's Quarters points out
So much for reform. Now that he has barely warmed his seat in Albany, he has shifted his game to that of old-time politician and spoils master. ... After running a campaign that pledged Spitzer to a course that would change "politics as usual", he seems to have discovered an affinity for slush funds in record time.
I'd suggest term limits as a mechanism for New Yorkers to protect themselves from Governors whose long exposure to power makes them corrupt -- but two months seems a little ridiculous.
Did I mention he hates Indians, likes to break treaties with them and wants them all to suffer?
