This segment was shot as I was leaving the MacArthur Park event, returning to work, where my car was parked.
To make it clear to everybody:
1. I heard the police REPEATEDLY announcing that the rally is over, and the crowd was declared an "unlawful assembly".
This was done both by cops on foot, and the air cav (LAPD chopper).
2. I heard the LAPD repeatedly announcing, on the bullhorn, "Members of the press, you are here illegally! The event is OVER, please leave the park."
Word to the wise: when the boyz in black tell you, the event is over, it is time to "vamos" ...
I've been to Baldwin Park twice, Alhambra, Campo, etc. - play by the rules, LISTEN to what is being said, that is ONE of the differences between us and the lawbreakers.
Also, when you go to a RISKY event, do NOT take the big camera, the one you would carry on your shoulder.
With one eye closed, the other looking into a 2 inch round hole, who WILL NOT and CANNOT be aware of what is going on around you and behind you. Take a small camera, with an LCD monitor, and BE AWARE of your surrounding. And "But I am with the press" is not necessarily an excuse ....
