Just two days after receiving the required votes for initial cloture, phone calls from everyday outraged Americans were credited as the main reason S.1639, the Senate Immigration "Reform" Bill, was killed. This bill would have given the 12+ million illegal aliens in this country legal status through amnesty, a right to Social Security, welfare benefits and health care benefits that would have bankrupted most of these programs and only encouraged more illegal immigration into this country.
Senator Jeff Sessions credited the calls to Senators as being the overwhelming reason why so many Senators changed their votes from those they cast only two days ago on June 26, 2007. In an interview he said that it was so bad that when he picked up his phone to call out that he couldn't get a free line. If you were one of the many who called, faxed and emailed - as I did myself - then you not only have my gratitude, but the gratitude of the 80+ percent of Americans opposed to this action by our elected officials.
