Senator John McCain's bid for the presidency is looking more dismal everyday and in this latest round of fundraising he has raised an abysmal amount. While some would blame this on his support of the Iraq war, the truth is that he has been front and center in the immigration debate over the last quarter and I'm guessing more than a few Americans pulled support of this amnesty cheerleader.
McCain was heavily involved in last year's Senate Immigration Amnesty Bill as well as this years and his getting in bed with Senator Kennedy on the issue has clearly had a negative impact on his fundraising capabilities.
The fact is we don't want another amnesty loving George Bush in the White House and now John McCain is paying for his illegal immigration stance.
He has had to let 50 of his staffers go according to insiders.
CNN
Republican John McCain reorganized his campaign Monday, cutting staff in every department as he raised just $11.2 million in the last three months and reported an abysmal $2 million cash on hand for his presidential bid.
...
Some 50 staffers or more are being let go, and senior aides will be subject to pay cuts as the Arizona senator bows to six months of subpar fundraising, according to officials with knowledge of the details of the shake up.
...
At its peak, McCain's payroll covered 150 staffers; this is the second round of layoffs.
...
He has become intimately linked to the unpopular Iraq war, and, in recent weeks, he's drawn criticism from already wary conservatives for his support of Bush's immigration reform bill.
Good, I hope he goes down in flames. We don't need people like him leading this country and refusing to enforce the laws on the books.
I could write his ads for him "As President, I John McCain, can ensure you that I will not enforce the law" Great slogan there McCain.
