Florida Congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart seems to think that Spanish needs to be emphasized and preserved in this country. He was speaking at a La Raza conference in Miami. Now I have no problems with people speaking Spanish, but when you are telling people that Spanish needs to be emphasized in this country then I think you've stepped over the line and really done a disservice to your constituents and to the American people as a whole in the Hispanic community.
The only language in this country that should be emphasized is English. It's fine to learn and speak other languages, but just about everyone you ask will tell you that not actively learning and emphasizing English as a new legal immigrant - or even as a kid growing up in this country - is going to be detrimental to your success in the future.
So to all of you out there, go ahead, emphasize Spanish like Lincoln Diaz-Balart espouses and one day you too can be happy making minimum wage as you cannot interact on a professional level with the rest of the corporate world in this country and around the globe.

Speaking to delegates during lunch yesterday, Rep. Lincoln Diaz-Balart, Florida Republican and a Cuban immigrant, urged them to help preserve Spanish.
"It is important that we emphasize the Spanish language and that we keep the Spanish language, and that we transmit that emphasis to our children and our grandchildren," he said.
My response to Lincoln Diaz-Balart: Pro English baby!
