In the most ridiculous action and statement I've seen in quite awhile by someone who is charged with upholding the law, New York City District Attorney
Robert Morgenthau has announced that he is setting up a special "
Immigrant Unit". No, it's not what you think it is, it has nothing to do with cracking down on illegal aliens.
This special "Immigrant Unit" will solely focus on claims by immigrants, legal or illegal, of crime against them.
And here comes the most ridiculous statement ever made by a District Attorney. (OK I'm sure there's more ridiculous, but this takes the cake for today at least)
""New York is a city of immigrants, and the United States is a country of immigrants," Morgenthau said. "Everyone who comes here is entitled to the full protection of the law."
Oh yes, everyone who comes here is entitled to the full protection of the law. However, if you've already been here as a US citizen your whole life, you don't get a special unit and you don't get the full protection under the law of illegal aliens taking your taxpayer money or committing crimes against you. As a matter of fact if an illegal alien commits a crime against you as a citizen more than likely they will get a special plea agreement and be deported only to come back again and commit more crimes. Crimes that escalate in nature.
I find it simply incredible that we as Americans are being put into the back seat of this country while immigrants are being given special privileges that you or I as American citizens don't receive.
One other thing Mr. Morgenthau, I thought immigration was a federal issue? So why are you specifically setting up a unit only for immigrants? Are you going to check their papers when they report a crime to ensure that they aren't a US citizen? Also as part of law enforcement aren't you required by law to report criminals, namely illegal aliens, whether they are victims or not?
How about a little respect for our laws?
Houston Chronicle
Illegal immigrants living in Manhattan who have been victimized by crimes or who are aware of crimes can now report the incidents without fearing arrest and deportation, officials said.
District Attorney Robert Morgenthau announced Tuesday that he has created a unit to address issues that confront immigrants, regardless of their status, and to prosecute people who prey on them without reporting their immigration status.
"New York is a city of immigrants, and the United States is a country of immigrants," he said. "Everyone who comes here is entitled to the full protection of the law."
Morgenthau said his office handles 110,000 cases a year and one-third of them involve people who don't speak English.
In 1996 the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act stated that a city cannot make any laws or ordinances that order their workers not to report illegal aliens to authorities. After that Rudy Giuliani challenged that federal law while Mayor of NYC. In the end he lost, but cities like San Francisco and Miami have flaunted this by becoming sanctuary cities for illegal aliens and ordering workers not to report illegal aliens.
Now it seems Mr. Morgenthau has decided to flaunt that law as well.
When are the feds going to stand up and enforce laws on the books? I call for an immediate prosecution of Mr. Morgenthau and other city officials across this nation that are upholding and implementing these policies. They are breaking federal law! If you as an American citizen violate federal law you will be arrested and charged, but in this case it seems leaders are above the law as they are not being punished in any way for violating them.
It's time to end that discrepancy.
