This is the email I sent to the City Hall in that f---ing excuse for a city:

My son is a United States Marine (1 tour in Iraq, 1 tour in Afghanistan), my father was a United States Marine (1 tour in Korea, 2 tours in Viet Nam) and your pitiful excuse for a City should be ashamed of yourselves.

My suggestion to the United State Marine Corps is that in the event Berkeley suffers from an earthquake, a fire, a flood, mudslides, or an attack by terrorists, they should let Code Pink help and defend you, and good luck! The military that you so denigrate is the first to rush to the aid of any victim of any natural disaster and since you are so callous as to not want the Marines in Berkeley, the Marines should respect your wishes in the event of a disaster, other than the disaster that is your very existence as a city.

If only you could and would remove yourselves from the United States, we could all be so much prouder of our country!! I will proudly spread the word of your disgusting behavior in order to help ensure that the tourism and the college that supports your pitiful excuse for a city is not ever supported by anyone traveling to or being "educated" in, your putrid excuse for a city.

Not sure about the City, but the Berkeley Schools just celebrate the traditional holidays - Labor Day, Indigenous People's Day, Veteran's Day (I'm not sure about this one) and Thanksgiving (but we're embarrassed by it), some unknown holiday at the end of December, New Year's Day, Lincoln's Birthday, Presidents Day, International Women's Day, Caesar Chavez Day (these two are not holidays but observances during the day), Malcolm X Day and Memorial Day in May. School vacations are scheduled at times to avoid having to acknowledge Christmas and Easter/Passover.

And for the record, some of in Berkeley are horrified by this insult to the USMC recruiters, who have behaved honorably and professionally throughout this ordeal. We hate being lumped in with the toads and pinksters.

I'm a Berkeley resident and I find the city council's resolutions to be contemptible. I agree completely with Digger's profanity laced rant.

To the decent citizens of Berkeley: it's time to rise up and take your pitchforks to city hall. It's the clowns in the city council, not the Marines, who deserve to be pushed out of Berkeley. Speak up now before it's too late.

My memory eludes me, given my advanced age, though it may have been Berkeley City Councilwoman Betty Olds who argued that U.S. Marines don't belong in Berkeley. I'm normally reluctant to chastise someone so glaringly myopic or bereft of at least a rudimentary sense of history, but United States Marines have held a presence in the San Francisco area since just after the dawn of our republic. Olds, on the other hand, is a transplanted Missourian who discovered the Bay Area some 170 years later. I'm willing to bet that--if the American people were to vote on precisely who should remain in the Bay Area, and who should not, in this issue--Ms. Olds would come away in mortal embarrassment. My advice to the Berkeley City Councilmembers who so vehemently dislike our modern-day Gyrenes: Don't further marginalize yourselves any more than you already have, for, outside the walls of your much-too-insular council chambers, you're already a laughingstock of our country. Bigger people than you have on numerous occasions attempted to abolish the Corps: Still, you're welcome to try, if indeed you think you're big enough. We Marines need a reason to laugh every now and then. Make our day, council kids: Lock and load.

I was on a Pro-Berkley City Council website, and I read things that angered me so much that I had to just leave, and read no more. I'm pissed. I'm really
f-ing pissed! There were people there calling our U S Marine Corps personnel rapists, and murderers. My father spent 12 years in the Corps, and another 20 years in federal law enforcement, and in his 32 total years of service, he never murdered, or raped anyone. On the contrary, there are at least 5 people I know of who's lives were saved by the actions of my Father. He spent his life doing his small part in serving our country, just like hundreds of thousands of other members of our military, many of whom were injured, and killed PROTECTING our country, and SAVING lives. Berkley needs to have all federal funding cut off immediately. This is not an issue of freedom of speech as the leftist loons would have you believe. This is a HATRED and a criminal CONTEMPT of the people who protect the things we all value and treasure. The Berkley City Council disgusts me, the very name of that town now makes me want to vomit. Shameful!

Okay so if i'm correct the City council of Berkley believes that an organization that defaces public property thereby breaking the law should be given special consideration to protest a group made up of citizens who obey the laws and protect our freedoms. Berkley i dub thee the most idiotic town in America. Of course you DO realize technically the Federal Government could hold the city council under charges of conspiring to induce “by force, intimidation and threat, officers of the United States to leave the place where their duties as officers of the United States are required to be performed".

We, the undersigned condemn the Berkeley City Council’s treasonous attack on US Marine Recruiters stationed in their city. We ask that Congress cut off funds from any and all municipal entity within the confines of the city of Berkeley, California, until such time as the city council withdraws it’s action.

The City Council has voted to tell the Marines their downtown recruiting station is not welcome and “if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome guests.”

The measure passed last week by a vote of 8-1.

The council also voted to explore enforcing a city anti-discrimination law, focusing on the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

In a separate item, the council voted, also 8-1, to give the Marxist protest group Code Pink a parking space in front of the recruiting office once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week.

I think everyone should send "care packages" to the Mayor at his provided office address. I think if thousands of people would send in packages of packing peanuts, foam, rocks, unrolled toilet paper, empty plastic bottles, shredded paper,..... (junk in general), that they might get the picture that the rest of the country thinks their grand idea is junk!

Wow... this amazes me ... the total lack of understanding. Let me explain somthing to all of you the protest... And listen well if you dont believe me go talk to a member of the armed forces..

Heres how the recruiting process works you get what they called flagged for this duty.. its not by choice (sometimes they do make this a career but most of the time not) They get to pick a region of the country they would like to be sent most of the time its because they are from around the area or like the area. They work hellish long hours usually 8am till 8pm Monday through Saturday and I've heard of some places working on sundays.. they have numbers they have to meet.... Again this is not a job they asked for it was a job they were asigned to do and because they have pride in what they do they do it to the best of their ability. Just like there comrands in Iraq they are doing the job they were told to do.

Also people are starting to say now that the recruiters lie to people and tell them miss information let me tell you somthing else now of course in any society there is going to be a bad apple but it is written if you give misleading or false information to someone (i.e... you wont go to war) it could possiably be the end of your career. To most of the recruiters its not worth it.

A group came into a local recruiters office here pretending they were looking to join... they had a camera and said they were video taping so his mom could see what he was thinking of doing.. they aske many dumb and rude questions like... Can I smoke weed.... Can you get me outa of going to war.. and so on the recruiter answered truthfuly and honestly at the end they stood up said congradulations you passed the test (he never lied) if he had lied they said they were going to post it on You Tube... They were part of some orginaztion cant remember the name now though... but what I think is funny because they didnt get the answer they were really looking for they dont want to post the video on you tube because it was the truth.

And my last thoughts... You say you dont supoort the the war but you do the troops.. no you dont if you protest any function the military is doing you are not supporting the troops because most of the time now.. those recruiters have been in Iraq.. remember that the next time you protest them your saying you dont care what they did for you and this country.

The reason I don't support the war is because the only reason it is being fought is for the billions of dollars that are being made by bankers loaning money to Bush in order to finance the war. Also, my father was a foreign services officer. His rank was equivalent to a full bird colonel in the marines. I lived in Pakistan for 7 years growing up as a child. My sister and her husband are both Air Force and stationed in Utah. My brother is a Daly City Police Officer. Believe me, my father knows plenty of CIA, DEA, and other government employees. He knew John Paul Vann personally in Vietnam. He knew Charlie Wilson back in the eighties. My father used to work in Afghanistan when we lived in Pakistan and Charlie Wilson used to come by his office frequently. So to you Lindsy, if you think I am ill informed, think again. One of my father's good friends and neighbor of ours in my hometown is a ex-colonel in the marines. He heads private security forces in Iraq for ridiculous amounts of money. As for you all, I know that you are getting squat when considering the sacrifices you all are making. If one of you can make an argument about the reason we are fighting this war, then by all means, I will give my 100% full support. Until then, I will continue to voice my opinion against it, and keep asking that our Commander and Chief bring all armed forces home.

As for the postings by PEACE, those who scream loudest against the military are usually the ones who whine and scream loudest FOR the military when their own personal situation seems in peril. I have an acquaintance who sounds much like "PEACE".....she always blames America first. then the day after 9/11 she sent email after email, all pitched to the key of 'GOD BLESS AMERICA'.....hypocrites all. Peace, I understand your anger and frustration, even
though I diagree with you. Many things have happened
since 9/11 that warrant harsh questions, and many
of our leaders need to be held accountable for their
actions on both the right, and the left.
But, this particular issue is not about people's
like or dislike of the Bush administration, and their
foreign policy. It is about the Berkely City Council,
and Code Pink turning their anger against people who
have absolutely nothing to do with the President and
foreign policy. Those Marines who work at the re-
cruiting office have NOTHING to do with policy, they
have no say in world affairs, they are Marines just
trying to do their job.
The harassment of our troops is a disgusting,
hateful act. Groups like Code Pink have staged
protests outside of various military hospitals within
sight, and earshot of members of our armed forces who
have been spending their days trying to recover from
terrible, life changing injuries. How does this
further the anti-war cause? How does insulting and
and taunting sevice members doing their duty further
any cause?
Also, to forcefully block access to a recruiting
office, and to deny people considering a military
career the freedom to choose is a direct violation
of the freedoms the anti-war crowd claim to be in
favor of. It reeks of hypocrisy. To have such
contempt and hatred for those who protect the things
we all treasure as Americans is an unforgivable and
cowardly act.

Ok, I understand the strawhat argument. Well, I would like to discuss the reasons for fighting Iraq so I'll look for antother thread. Let there be no doubt that the actions of the Berkeley City Council desrespting America and our Marine Corps are reprehensible. The gall of any American City referring to the U.S. Marines as "Unwelcome" in thier city is of course abhorrent to any decent American. As a guy with 4 Bronze Stars and 3 Purple Hearts from three tours in Vietnam I clearly remember the city of Berkeley. Nothing much has changed, I guess. That said, I am concerned by the use of profanity by the folks on my side of this issue. Frankly, as much as this old paratrooper is angered, I respectfully submit that a display of profanity gives aid to those anti American members of the Berkeley City Council. I can see the good guys in this argument being labeled as less than intelligent vlugar people of low moral fiber due to their choice of words. Gandpa often said it was always smarter to discuss rather than cuss. I understand the passion and admire the defense of my country more than I can express. However, I qestion the use of foul language as an effective tool. Never give the enemy amunition troops.

Wow, only in America we have the right to treat our Marines and soldiers like this. This was also pull from Berkeley's city counsel meeting. There are some other interesting things proposed during these meetings that go totally unnoticed. These people are truely not Americans. I would be ashamed to live in or even near that city.

It would be interesting to see how Peace defends Berkley's actions in the 1st Gulf War (or should I say Frisco's). Declaring itself an open city for deserters. This was a UN action vs Saddam for the invasion of Kuwait. There was no misrepresentation of the facts. Saddam had plenty of time and opportunity to leave Kuwait prior to the UN deadlines. He chose not to leave. Yet Frisco and Berkley were adamantly opposed to this war.

Brainwashing works on the socialists just as it does on the democracies. In a Berkley mind there is no just war. World War II would be unjust in their way of thinking. I am surprised they even have a police force.

Do I think this war is unjust? Maybe unwise but not unjust. Saddam had numerous violations of UN sanctions prior to the conflict. There were no WMD's but Saddam was a WMD. We were unwise because we had no exit strategy and the UN forces in Iraq had things well in hand. I just had a son join the Army in the last 2 weeks. He may well be sent to Iraq. We had no illusions when he joined about what he might face. No recruiter lied to us about where he might be sent. He will be a cavalry scout so he will almost certainly be in the middle of conflict whether it is Iraq or Afghanistan. He knew this going in.

Its a shame W was so tough on Iraq and so weak on illegal immigration. He can defend us in Iraq but won't defend our borders. Of course, in Frisco there is no illegal immigration. It is just a city full of people that are temporarily without citizenship. Barack "Hussein" Obama will be glad to give them drivers licenses and the former Mayor of San Francisco, Feistein (that declared San Francisco an open city during the 1st Gulf War), will be there to support him.

Hi Digger, Let me start by saying we are in total agreement regarding you "freedom of speech". We both took an oath "To defend the Constitution of the United States --- So help me God." I would never say anything that would in anyway challenge your RIGHT to use whatever language you cared to to express your feelings. However, I will maintain my right to say that vulgarity is not only not necessary when one expresses the strongest of feelings, it is harmful to a just cause. Doesn’t surprise me in the least. I happen to have a sign on my car (Russian by birth US Marine by choice) and I’m very used to stopping by Berkley and hearing all kinds of insults. I guess they forget that They sleep safe in their beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do them harm.

These self righteous Berkley council members are the slimy residue of the Berkley college students that crucified and berated our poor soldiers while they were sacrificing their lives in Viet Nam, and when they got home. Back then they called our Marines baby killers. Things never change I guess. The human race will always have parasites like these. They stand on their soap boxes and yell, "Look at me. I'm different. Admire me". They view decent people with utter contempt.

For the people of Berkeley, CA The Marines are a strange breed of military personnel they are willing to do what most people in the U.S. are affraid to do and put their lives on the line to give everyone the chance to have an option to either join the military service of choice. For a city like Berkeley i do find them to be UnAmerican what happen to having a choice and to listen to the people that want to join the military will you look down on them as they get deployed to fight and put their lives on the line.
