A new report out from the Center for Immigration Studies entitle "No Coyote Needed" points out that U.S. Visas are still an easy way to get into the US and remain here illegally.
This has been a problem for decades and once again our federal government has been doing little to nothing to combat the problem. The main reasons all being political, for power and money, of course. The report also talks of the Visa lottery, a system which draws people out of a hat with no concerns to why they want to be here or what they plan to do here.
While presidential candidates promise to secure the border, the other major source of illegal immigration is largely ignored – lax visa policies. Visa overstays account for between one-quarter to one-half of the illegal-alien population, and fencing, unmanned aerial vehicles, National Guard patrols, etc., are irrelevant to controlling this part of the immigration problem.
The report includes tables with hard numbers broken down by country and what percentage of visa applications are approved. For instance out of all of the visa applications from Haiti, half were approved. Half! "Well, why are you picking on Haitians?" You may ask. Well I'm not. I'm simply pointing out that if you look at the contributions that an impoverished, undereducated Haitian with no work experience can contribute to our country - and that should be the only criterion for entry into the United States - you have to admit that there is very little they will bring with them other than poverty.
It is across the board importation of poverty that doesn't look out for the good of America, but the corrupt system that is in place. Someone along the lines is taking a bribe or benefiting in some way financially or career wise by allowing something like the above to occur and continue.
Mention the words “illegal immigrant” and most Americans conjure up images of desperate migrants sneaking across the Mexican border. There is another side to America’s immigration problem, however, that most know very little about — those who come with valid, temporary visas and do not return home. According to a 2006 Pew Hispanic Center study, nearly half of the 12 million-plus illegal aliens in America arrived legally with temporary, non-immigrant visas.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) estimates that a “substantial” percentage of America’s illegal population is made up of visa overstays — their estimates range from 27 to 57 percent. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) noted in a 2004 report on visa overstays that DHS may be significantly underestimating the magnitude of the visa overstay problem — noting that the DHS study only quantified the number of visa overstays in the illegal population — whereas many who overstay visas are later able to legalize their status.
In the end immigration comes down to one thing. What is good for the United States. Everything else is simply illogical. In this case, the fraud and overstays and illegality of it all benefits our country in no way and it needs to be ended.
At the end of the report there are recommendations made on how we can fix this broken system.
Make sure you read or peruse the whole report from the Center for Immigration Studies and forward it on to others. It will open your eyes on this fraud laden program.
