(Vancouver, British Columbia) On Monday, Canadian Federal Court Justice Anne Mactavish ordered 25-year-old U.S. Army deserter Robin Long to be deported back to the United States. Long is the first U.S. military deserter to be denied refugee status and ordered deported since the beginning of the Iraq War.

(Buffalo, New York) Last Saturday, a 24-year-old accused U.S. Navy deserter, Jeffrey Mitchell, attempted to enter New York at the Peace Bridge crossing in Buffalo and was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) on a federal warrant out of California. Mitchell has been a wanted man since May 2007.
Mitchell said he went to Niagara Falls, Ontario, for a two-day vacation.
