So this idiot out in California, Armando Navarro, a professor of "ethnic studies" at the University of Riverside, California, and also of the "Inland Valley Labor Action Network" sent out an all point bulletin regarding a city council meeting on whether to enforce drunk driving laws and use a grant to set up checkpoints to discourage drunk driving.
That city council meeting is tonight, Monday September 8, 2008 at 8PM. If you are in the area please join other pro-enforcement members of the community and other concerned citizens opposed to drunk driving, in standing up for what is right by showing up there:
Pomona City Council Chambers
505 South Garey Ave.
Pomona, CA
City Council member Cristina Carrizosa, who is running for mayor, is waging an aggressive campaign to stop traffic checkpoint in Pomona and has accused the cops of being Gestapo. There are expected to be crowds, so show up early (4:30ish).
Anyway, Armando Navarro says enforcing drunk driving laws will have too much of an impact on the community. In other words he's arguing in favor of drunk driving because enforcing the law may inconvenience illegal aliens. Below is the suggested letter he says that people should send to the city council.
For those who don't know, Armando Navarro was also the organizer of a march in Washington DC in February, 2006 against HR 4437, the Secure Fence Act.
Here is the suggested letter that Armando Navarro says should be sent to the city council:
I urge the City Council, and Mayor Norma Torres, to not accept the "DUI Enforcement and Awareness Program Grant" of the State of California Office of Traffic Safety for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. The manner in which the traffic checkpoints are carried out in the City of Pomona has created a state of concern and discontent in a substantially large portion of the Pomona Community. The checkpoints have fomented distrust and fear towards the police among many people. The checkpoints also negatively impact local businesses which depend on the patronage of families and individuals of modest economic resources. Thus, in this manner, the checkpoints are a grave threat to the stability of the local economy, and social harmony within the community, which includes not only the City of Pomona but the other neighboring cities as well.
So according to this reconquista the checkpoints are a "grave threat", yet drunk drivers are not?
I particularly like how he obfuscates who he is defending by referring to illegal aliens as "substantially large portion of the Pomona Community" and "many people" and "families and individuals of modest economic resources". Also included is the veiled threat that there will not be social harmony in the community if they pass this in the city council.
And below is a scathing statement from the Pomona Police Officers' Association (PPOA) after describing 4 incidents between August 15 and August 25, 2008 alone involving unlicensed and drunk drivers that involved the death of civilians and injuries to cops:
Some of these examples involve police officers, which just validates that anyone can be involved in serious traffic collisions involving drunk and unlicensed drivers and that Police Officers are not immune to these dangers.
With the recent verbal assaults by Councilperson Cristina Carrizosa, the unlicensed and DUI drivers are learning that the City of Pomona is becoming a safe haven.
Our PPOA members have always taken traffic safety very seriously and have taken a zero tolerance approach to all traffic laws.
Recently, Councilperson Cristina Carrizosa called the members of the Police Department "Gestapo's", liars, cheaters, and accused them of attempting a cover up regarding statistics.
With the recent injuries sustained by a police officer and the death of an innocent girl trying to cross the street, the Pomona Police Officers' Association cannot tolerate this any longer. We have remained steadfast in our support for this community and in the preservation of their safety. We have refrained from responding to Carrizosa's blatant, rude, accusatory, defamatory, slanderous remarks and accusations and have not wavered from our goals and mission of protecting the citizens of this community. Now that members of this community are being injured and killed we can no longer tolerate the continual attacks on our members that have divided the community and those who protect it.
President Phil Bozoich stated, "Councilperson Carrizosa has continued to attack the members of this Association and the loyal and dedicated employees of this City. I will not allow it to continue. She is not only creating a hostile work environment for the Police Department employees, but she is now the reason for causing injury to the people I represent and the citizens of this city that I protect."
WOW!
