The Hazleton, Pennsylvania Illegal Immigration Relief Act is headed to the Third Circuit Court of appeals tomorrow October 30, 2008 in Philadelphia. Mayor Lou Barletta will be there to defend his town's right to enforce the law against the illegal practice of renting to and hiring illegal aliens.
The oral arguments in the appeal will be held at 1PM and each side will have approximately 15 minutes to state their case.
Both sides in the case say that no matter the outcome it will be appealed to the US Supreme Court. I wish Hazleton well tomorrow in their fight for the rights of America and not the rights of those who have violated our laws and those who are supporting them in doing so.
I originally planned on attending the appeal downtown, but it doesn't seem like there will be anything that we can really get out of it by attending. I did extensive coverage of the original case on a day by day basis that you can read in my Hazleton archive and I'm sure arguments on both sides will remain the same. The ACLU is claiming that the IIRA is unconstitutional and violates the due process clause.
