I've never held the anger or dislike of Hillary Clinton that most Conservatives seem to hold for her. I have disagreed with her stances on issues and her drive for universal health care, but in general I haven't held any hate for her.
I've heard a number of others on the right say that they also like her for Secretary of State, but I actually came to that conclusion on my own when she was first being talked about for the position weeks ago.
Now she is going to be our Secretary of State and here are three reasons why I like Hillary Clinton for this position. I don't know what their reasons for liking her are, but mine are below.
1. She's a bulldog
There is no doubt in anyone's mind that Hillary is a tough woman. I honestly believe that no matter how much you may disagree with her on issues that when it comes to foreign governments Clinton will stand for the United States first. Some of the other choices that the Obama administration were considering for the position, such as Bill Richardson, were simply weak-spined and want to be liked personally rather than stand up for America first. We don't need that in a Secretary of State.
2. It gets her out of the Senate
There is no doubt that Hillary is a Liberal and a Liberal will replace her, but this goes back to my first point above, she was a bulldog and could influence others and push initiatives due to her contacts and following she has. Getting Hillary out of the Senate is a good thing.
3. It removes her from domestic decision making
Universal health care anyone? While I believe that socialism is heading to our health care system through the Obama administration, it won't be fronted by one Hillary Clinton. By having her as the Secretary of State it focuses her on foreign affairs and gets her out of domestic policy making. Sure, she may stick her nose into things behind the scenes - as a Senator she would have been even more involved - but she will come off as a fool making an actual policy statement on domestic affairs as a sitting Secretary of State. Most of my disagreement with Hillary Clinton has been on domestic issues and by putting her into a foreign affairs pigeonhole we can separate her from those issues.
So there they are in a nutshell. I think she'll do a good job and won't take any crap from foreign leaders. I also don't think she'll fall into traps like Madeleine Albright did when she came back from North Korea gloating about how cool Kim Jong-il is.
