Senator Jeff Sessions continues to expound on concerns over Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor. The clip below is his concerns over her statements - and Obama's upon nominating her - that we need empathy on the bench. This goes against the principles of the Constitution wherein empathy has no place. Judgments are to be made based off of the law of the land and not on empathy or emotion for either party concerned. It is the only fair way that people have equality under the law in this country.
That is the point. She apparently would have empathy for whomever she chose. That is not how laws should be judged.
For example:
"Yes he stole the $500 dollars from your house... but look at him! He's a poor fellow with 4 kids who lives in a bad neighborhood".

Sonia Sotomayor is better off using logic than empathy when interpreting U.S. law.
For instance, would anybody feel comfortable allowing a female judge with a history of being a "battered wife" to adjudicate a case involving alleged spousal abuse? The conflict of interest may very well compromise the case. This is how empathy works in a court of law.
