I just got home after a long day in DC and watched the recording of Glenn Beck's Two Hour Coverage of the DC Tea Party event while it happened. To say I was mildly disgusted is an understatement.
First, there was the constant thanks to Glenn on how "you made it all happen". Yes, Glenn publicized it. Yes, Glenn came up with the "9/12 Project", after the Tea Parties were already being held nationwide. So he did have a hand in getting some people excited about it. But it was all about Glenn? Holy crap! More on that in a minute.
Second, too many times during his broadcast I see things like "9/12'ers rally" at the bottom of the screen. Really? Because being there myself I found few signs for Beck or The 9/12 Project. Having personally talked to many, not a one mentioned it. They were there for America. Not some guy on TV with enough money to put up a website and push people to it with free advertising on his show . Sorry, but that's the fact.
Third, you have a million plus standing in front of the Capital Dome of the United States and you show a whopping 5 minutes or so of coverage? What the hell was wrong with this guy? They go to the crowd about 3 times. Once was to a woman who had already been interviewed by Molly Hennenberg just a few minutes before on Brian Williams really poor coverage of the event. The other time, you end up talking to a woman who was an organizer of a 9/12 group. Wow, was that coincidence?
Fourth, you talk to Senator Jim DeMint and Rep Mike Pence. Unbelievable! Look, I love these guys and their stance and how they have called for fiscal responsibility, but you have got to be kidding me! People spent a portion of their life to attend this event. And out of all the people you pick two politicians to ramble about what they could say next week on your show... while a million plus Americans are standing right there! (foreign media is reporting 2 million)
Fifth, in the second hour of Beck's show he decides this would be a good time to trot out a new program he's come up with to end corruption in this country. While an admirable goal, you decide to do this while a million plus Americans are standing in front of the Capital Dome of the United States. Beck rambles on about corruption for close to 40 minutes by my estimation...
Sixth, Fox video "coverage" consisted of one flat image. The view was shooting straight into the front of the crowd. There was no real depth to the image and nobody could get any kind of feel or life from that shot. It was totally amateurish. From bloggers that can be expected, they don't have any funding other than their own pockets and a video camera (if they are lucky, many just have a cell phone camera or the like). A professional organization gives us a flat, shitty image?! I was sickened.
Seventh, We were led to believe that Beck would be staying in New York because he had to cover all of the Tea Parties across the country. Really? Then why were the only shots we received mediocre ones of the DC Tea Party and a quick couple minute interview with Andrew Breitbart (a new friend of the Beck show after he passed along the work of other patriots in this country and claimed a lot of kudos for doing so).
Then a shot in Texas talking to a regular pastor guest on his show who went off on some diatribe about Judeo-Christian values in this country and the assault on them. That's all fine and dandy for your weekly show, but with the 20,000 people who showed up in Texas I may have seen about 10 of them - all standing in the background while the organizer and pastor stood in the front ranting on.
Eighth, There was no passion at all from Beck. I felt I was watching a poor acting job of excitement (which didn't even really play out well). No passion at all, Beck seemed to swipe his hand and say "now that this is currently going on let's not talk about it, let me talk about...".
Disgusting all around.
Look here's the facts. People spent a portion of their life to attend this event.
I met a woman who flew out from California, a woman who probably doesn't have the extra money laying around to do so. All to come and stand with other Americans and demand an end to the current theft going on by our government and the cronies running it.
I met people from Georgia who had never been to a rally, but took this weekend to go all the way to Washington DC, standing for hours in hopes that something in this country gets done. In hopes that someone listens to them!
I saw elderly people walking miles, many of them having to take breaks because their bodies aren't holding up quite like they used to. This after having spent hours - and in some cases days - getting there. For America
In a brief phone call with an elderly man back home, when asked if he was watching the coverage and what his take on it was, I got the impression of "Ho-Hum"... well no doubt, with that portrayal of the days events! I couldn't understand at the time why I was seeing something incredible - something that I will probably never see again in my lifetime - and someone watching at home was given bird crumbs for 3 minutes of flat shots, interviews of no substance and self-aggrandizement.
Where the Hell Was Their Coverage?
Where the Hell Was The Coverage Of The American People I Saw There?
I believe that Glenn Beck, with those 2 hours, probably did more damage to future events than anything The Left could throw at them. People watching at home receiving such a shrug of irrelevance from someone like Beck - when he has been railing on Americans to stand up for months - can only discourage them from ever attending an event like that. Why? Because the whole show gave the impression that Beck didn't care That "fine you showed up, but, F YOU, let's talk about this new idea I have!"
Disgusted, that is the only word I can use to describe what I saw from Beck. Absolutely disgusted.
As for the other media, I didn't watch their stuff, we all know they would never report the truth of what happened yesterday in Washington DC. If it was a purely Liberal cause such as global warming or PETA, they'd be all over it, even if it was 50 people. When Americans as a whole stand up though... well that's too threatening. The media has to keep us divided into our little nooks of ineffectiveness. Our categories of Dem and Repub, Black and White, Poor and Rich. That is their goal at all costs.
With a lot of great work that Beck has been doing over the past week exposing ACORN, Van Jones, Cass Sunstein and organizational structures of those out to end this country as we know it, I was screaming my praises of him. But after seeing this total backstabbing of hard working Americans standing up for themselves I simply can't get the taste out of my mouth even as I write this.
Ick.
My coverage will be up soon. It will show more than Beck put up in two hours and I'm just some guy. There are others out there that are quicker than me. I wish I had a whole team to get it up faster and on the same day and I apologize for that. I have to edit all of my pics, video and write it all myself.
