Sheriff Joe Arpaio did an interview with
Newsmax.tv. In the interview he says the attacks on him are all political and those that want to end his immigration enforcement on illegal aliens don't like his success.
"Washington doesn't like our success... we're too successful," Arpaio said.
Under the 287g program, which allows local law enforcement to enforce immigration law through a federal program, Arpaio has arrested 33,000 illegal aliens. This represents 1/4 of all arrests under the program nationally since 287g's implementation.
The groups attacking him - liberal politicians, businesses and illegal immigration proponents - want illegal aliens to remain here unless they have committed heinous crimes. These people are saying that Arpaio, Maricopa County Sheriff in Arizona, should ignore the law and allow certain people to continue to break it. This is something Arpaio vows he will never do. He will enforce the law, as he has been elected and taken an oath to do.
"I'm not going to stop doing my job, worrying about the Hispanic vote or worrying about business people angry at me because I'm arresting their employees the employees they hired, " Arpaio said "Why are we allowing illegals to take the jobs of US citizens? Now I don't want to hear the garbage that nobody will do the jobs. People are laid off, they'll do anything to raise money for their family and support their family."
Gotta love Sheriff Joe!
