There is a " National Tea Party Convention" set to be held in Nashville, Tennessee from February 4th-6th 2010. The list of sponsors of this event, organized by Tea Party Nation, is a bunch of groups that I would think might be a little more logical and reasoning than they are, since most are of a conservative nature.
Update * * *
Palin tells Bill O'Reilly she will not be receiving a fee
* * *
Logic and reason have been thrown out the window in this country though and it's not just coming from the left and their adulation of the "charismatic and dynamic" Barack Obama that blinded everyone's eyes to his actual stances on issues. Now on the right logic and reason have been discarded and they are blinded by a few super-personalities that dress the right way, say clever things and speak in certain tones. Underneath it all though is nothing more than trying to emotionally drive people to give them money and it's not about the movements they say they are supporting.
Enter one Sarah Palin.
Palin, an attractive woman who oozes charisma that makes people want to like her and support her, has taken to the Tea Party movement like a duck to water. Jumping on the backs of a grassroots anger coming from the hard working producers of this country she has manipulated them in ways I didn't think possible. Since her choosing as vice-presidential candidate to John McCain she has been lauded as the second coming of Reagan by those on the right.
In the end though Palin has basically gained support the same way that Barack Obama did, through celebrity, image and glossiness. Yet when you dig down into Sarah Palin you find a dark side. It's the vogue more than the rogue.
It has now been reported by Palin supporter and conservative Dan Riehl that Palin will be charging the Tea Party Convention $100k for her Saturday Night Keynote address. This just appalls me and should raise red flags to anyone who thinks she is supporting the tea party movement simply because of their values and principles. After selling millions of books and making millions of dollars, Sarah Palin is now on the warpath to make every single dollar she can before she self destructs and people turn on her.
Don't get me wrong, I like Sarah Palin personally and I really did want to support her, but when she coddled up to John McCain a red flag of logic and reason went up in me that overcame the emotion driven thoughtlessness.
I instantly started digging into her stances on immigration. After all, if this is going to be the "second in command" of our nation - and possible president if McCain should die in office - she better have a good firm stance on what she would do about the 20 million illegal aliens in this country and a good solid idea what to do with the open borders to our country. Finding nothing I was shocked at the support she was receiving (and continues to receive). Having no stance on this issue is basically endorsing it as something not important. It is complicit in allowing it to continue. Finally all of my suspicions were confirmed when Palin gave an interview to Univision where she states that she was for a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens in October 2008, just days before the election.
It should be noted that one of the sponsors of the Tea Party Convention is the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). They should pull out in protest as should any other groups and individuals opposed to amnesty. It's important to get your message out there, but not if it sacrifices your principles and beliefs.
Another absolute warning sign of Palin's intentions is when she resigned from being governor of Alaska. She claimed that she could do more without being burdened by being governor and the weight of public office. This to me smacked more of avoiding potential mistakes she might make that would end her career. It seemed less about being for a movement as she claimed. She has very little experience and the chance she had to receive any she tossed away. She has chosen to remain inexperienced rather than prove her worth.
Since that time she has made a roadshow selling her book Going Rogue and taking hip-shots from her website making a few endorsements here and there to candidates. Her golden touch of celebrity politician giving a boost to those so lucky and her blind followers not questioning things as they trot along behind.
The final breaking point for me on Palin is this $100k speaking fee. How outrageous and asinine do people have to be to believe that she is simply for the movement and the cause? Who can believe, other than the simply blind and emotion-driven sheep, that she would die for her principles? That to her it is more important to save this country from creeping socialism than it is to give a speech to those fighting the good fight on their saved up lunch money?
No, for Sarah Palin it is not simply about the cause, it is not simply about the values and principles, it is about exposure and making more than a typical Tea Partier makes in a year giving a speech to them about how great they are for supporting her. She'll tell them how she's behind them all the way as she siphons off a little of their cash that they could be putting to better use by organizing to continue the fight. It is more about her getting hers before the movement fades away and her star dims with it.
Can people in this country please wake up? You are committing all of your acts and movements based simply on emotion. You are committing the same cardinal sin that you accused Obama followers of. It is the death of this nation to continue on this path. I am quite simply disgusted by it. WAKE UP and use your brain!
Palin should be chastised for using this grassroots movement for a paycheck. It is more of the same self-promoting and "self before country " action that congress has taken and that every Tea Partier I have met has been vehemently against. Yet for little Sarah Palin they accept this "spit in their eye" with a smile on their face and a shout from their mouths.

Tea Parties are NOT conservative, nor are they anti-Obama rallies. They are pro-Constution gatherings -- one look at Palin on the "issues" will show that she actually holds the document in contempt.

Lisa,
Conservatives take the Constitution seriously; the Dems don't. If Palin doesn't she's a lot closer than a Dem. Anti deportion is a deal breaker for me, though.

I happened upon your site quite by accident while following news about Sarah Palin. On the surface we may not have much in common (I'm one of those "evil Dems"); nonetheless, I want to commend you--quite sincerely--for an excellent post on Palin's machinations. Her money-grubbing and self-promotion are precisely what alarms people at my end of the political spectrum. For the record, though, I must hasten to add that many liberals are equally concerned about the amount of money being raked in by politicians in the name of "serving our country." So we're on the same page here.

Same as Peggy (evilDem), I'm applauding your article here on Palin. While I'm positive there are many things we'd disagree on, your take on SARAH is spot on. Thanks.

I'm a Democrat and a liberal and I'm not shy nor ashamed about it!
Again, you do a great service to all by exposing ex gov. palin. It scares me how close she came to being VP.
But really, really listen to her, not only on immigration but on other issues. She does not have any 'positions' on issues, she just reacts to what others say. Everyone of her face book manifestos have been in response to an action by Congress or the POTUS.
You are astute in realizing that she quit to make money, not to make things better for Alaska.
I'll give you a big hint. Watch Alaska for their open season on palin's premier piece of work, the AGIA. It will be a failure. This is the the legislation that palin pushed through that made her the 'energy expert' by McCain. I'm sure that she did not want to hang around for that albatross to be hung from her neck, not that she ever takes any responsibility for her mistakes!

Another "Evil Dem" here - sensing a trend? Anyway, I also want to commend you on your cogent thoughts about Mrs Palin. I've been following her since her nomination in August, 2008, hoping to find out more about her - since John McCain's campaign obviously did very little vetting of her - and what I have found out is very alarming, indeed. She seems to be able to see the dollar signs of her followers and is acting accordingly.
I assume she will not be running for higher office - thanks God - because she is going for the money in her speeches. Any serious candidate - Republican or Democrat - who's looking at a run in 2012, is happy to speak to any audience - for free - in an attempt to get his name and message out there among voters.
I don't agree with many Tea Party ideas, but I admire those affiliated with the movement for their interest in government. Many do not seem to be particularly wealthy, and paying $539.00 or whatever, would be a hardship for them. Mrs Palin doesn't seem to recognise that fact. Thanks for pointing it out.

Of course Sarah needs to get paid! As if someone with her intellectual stature isn't worth $100,000...now really. I'm sure she has a lot of brilliant in-depth policy discussion on the way, right?
The House to Keep Bristol's Big Mouth Shut isn't going to build itself, ya know...& someone's got to pay for those grandkids and legal bills.

It really bothers me when conservatives make generalizing statements like liberals don't respect the constitution. It's total nonsense and some are simply brainwashed with all these ideas and talking points that aren't even true. Liberals generalize too- like saying or thinking that all consevative are ignorant hicks like Palin and that is wrong too.
You bring up great points in this article and fortunately there are conservatives who read and question and then see that Sarah is a shell, a fraud. She is about the money and most importantly Sarah cares about herself above all. I hope you keep writing and speaking the truth.

Great article and cutting-edge critique. Palin's facade has finally been cracked wide open. As you wrote, when she was running with McCain her stance on illegal immigration and amnesty was kept under cover until just before the election. Up to that point some free-thinkers were of the opinion that she would uphold the anti-amnesty concensus of the nation, but we were to learn the bald faced truth. She is a chameleon just like so many politicians, turning with the tide. Certainly she doesn't possess either the experience or values that are required of a true leader of the free world.

Thank you for exposing Grifter Granny, if she really believed in the Tea Party movement , with all her money she would do the speech for free. She's nothing but a money grubbing grifter and needs to be stopped. Hiding behind Facebook and Twitter doesn't cut it!

I will not be spending hard-earned money to see Palin speak. Where's the self-sacrifice for the greater good? Where's the servant's heart? A few years ago my pastor had the church anniversary "gala" at an expensive hotel. It was black tie while most of the congregation was lower-middle class. I changed churches. I could understand if she was struggling to pay her bills and put food on the table, but she's now a millionaire thanks to those of us who bought her book. Why couldn't she donate her time or just be compensated for her travel expenses? Didn't she dedicate the book to patriotic Americans? Where's her patriotism?

Just stopped back by to read comments since posting.
You really hit a nerve with us who believe Sarah is one of the major reasons theres such a divide in this country. She campaigned on and still believes only parts of this nation are 'real Americans'. I totally disagree. I believe that deep down, we all CAN and SHOULD work together for a better America. Divided we (WILL) fall. Thanks again for expressing your enlightenment about this vile, money-hungry individual. Obviously she only looks to divide people, not bring them together.

Wow, a conservative blogger that's not infatuated with the con artist, Palin. The Tea Partiers will fracture the Republican party so badly in the primaries that there will be NO gains in the house or senate this year. And Sarah doesn't give a hoot as long as she's raking in her bucks.

Wow!! Finally,a blog I can support! I was a registered Rep all my life until John McCain chose Mrs Palin for VP. After doing research on her stance on policies important to me and all Americans,I came away with an impression so bad that I changed to Independent just to vote against her!! How many others made a switch and voted against her instead of for Obama?
I am sure it will be very hard for her supporters when they understand that she has taken them for a ride, and it will take a long time to admit it,but it will happen. Think of all of the fundraising dollars she has syphoned away from true candidates who are out there actually running for office and trying to make a difference instead of trying to make a buck!.
Even her husband is a grifter, and she is raising her children to do the same. What a waste!

"That to her it is more important to save this country from creeping socialism "
here's what's amusing about it all.
if these people are so anti-socialism, how can they not see a contradiction in having a keynote speaker who has received a government check every year for her entire life? it's quite hilarious, really.
"come to the convention! our keynote speaker is the 1/2 term ex-governor of the most socialist state in the country!" hilarious!

Good point 'mommom'.
Whats it gonna take to bring this incredible GRIFTER down? There's TONS out there, waiting to expode soon.
Wake up people! She doesnt represent YOU! She represents Sarah, first and foremost.
I hope 'the crash' happens soon, if for nothing else but to save her "followers" from spending their hard earned CASH. We're all busted in this economy. EVERYONE.
Palin should be ASHAMED - but she's far from THAT.
Thanks again Digger. You are refreshing with this article, in the Sea Of Pro-Palin stuff.

Her appearance fees are 'hers'.
The PAC $$$ on the other hand, must be spent on Political expenses. Hence the BSMP LLC ...

This isn't Rocket Science, but then her supporters aren't rocket scientists either. I am convinced that some people are playing along with the 'sarah fan club' just out of spite for President Obama, and know she is not a contender.
The rest ... well they are Palinbots.

Archivist, I think you nailed it. They dont like a black man in the WHITEhouse. And the rest just dont know how to read or only watch and believe FauxNews.

It's encouraging to know that you are looking into facts and reporting on it. I'm a democrat who is wondering where did all the moderate Republican's go? As a liberal democrat I sure do miss them.
Posted by: NJ_Dem on January 8, 2010 01:50 PM
Tea Baggers are COMPLETELY IGNORANT of what the US CONSTITUTION is and how it works.
In fact, most of them do not have the reading comprehension skills need to understand the document. This is a fact.
Sarah Palin is ONLY interested in one thing: making money for herself. Period.
Posted by: c'mon man on January 8, 2010 02:33 PM
Palin is in quite a bit of debt fighting frivolous lawsuits. She may need the money. No, Palin has no business in national politics from what I've seen so far.Who knows, maybe later. That said, how sorry is Obama that Palin is actually considered a contender to knock him off?

I was a big Palin fan until she quit her post as Alaska governor to sell books. She will have to do some serious reconstruction of her image to win me back. Sadly, she is clearly more qualified and competent that what's in the White House now. See http://www.rightwingagenda.blogspot.com.

I voted for McCain because of Palin. Then she quit her job as Governor of Alaska. What happens if the press gets personal after she is elected President? I hate quitters. See http://www.rightwingagenda.blogspot.com.
