Four years ago I did a report on whether a mother can
get child support from an illegal alien. Since writing that story I have received numerous comments and direct messages of the plight of those who have had babies with illegal aliens. As most know, illegal aliens in this country use various fake identities to get jobs, receive benefits and otherwise remain anonymous and unaccountable for their actions.
Countries like Mexico are complicit in their actions as they continue to go around the country with "mobile Mexican Consulates" and via their physical consulates to provide illegal aliens with "Matricula Consular" identity cards. Testimony before congress has pointed out that these cards are highly fraud prone, yet they are being accepted for people to receive driver's licenses in some states and open bank accounts and receive loans.
These illegal aliens can break the law and then just vanish into the ether, fleeing to their home country or simply obtaining a new fraudulent identification and continuing to move about in our country claiming more victims. The most depressing of these situations is the women and girls who give birth to the babies of illegal alien men who then run away avoiding their obligations. Obtaining child support and help from an illegal alien father is near impossible to enforce through the law and many of these women are poverty stricken.
Below is the most recent of the comments I received from "Nicole", who relates her first hand experience of dealing with having an illegal alien for the father of her baby. (I have edited her commentary for grammar only)
I'm 18 years old and have a 17 month old son with a illegal. We were together for 2 1/2 years. We broke up when my son was 9 months old and he stopped seeing him and stopped giving me money for him. He helped with the baby at first because i was trying to finish school, but when we broke up he said his cars and friends we more important than his son.
He says now that I'm working it's my problem. He stopped seeing him and changed his phone number. I used to call him to plead to him to see his son, I never asked for money, he just started giving me money again - only $40 a week. He says a baby doesn't cost that much. I spend $200 a week on my son and pay a baby sitter and rent. He says that he has other things he needs to take care of that comes before the baby. I don't understand that.
He has said that he's going to take the baby and go to Portugal, so at first I didn't let him see him. Now he is asking to see him once a week on Sundays and I let him, because on Sundays I work 12 hour days and the baby sitter costs to much. I'm going to the child support office in 2 days, but he tells me he doesn't have to pay it cause he is illegal.
Nicole's story is tragic, but quite common.
You can read many more stories like Nicole's at my entry "Can You Get Child Support From An Illegal Alien?"
It doesn't cost $200 per week for a baby. Also, I agree with statements above. Your actions are irresponsible and ridiculous, so now you must tend to your child by yourself. If you cannot afford health care, food, diapers, a quality education for a child, then DON'T HAVE ONE. Too bad we're not advanced enough to run checks on mothers: If the above cannot be guaranteed, then the child should be taken by the government until aforementioned is secured. That would offer kids a better life, stop reckless parenting, decrease welfare costs, and make for increased birth control.
