San Antonio, TX - Thousands from across the country will be gathering together over the Columbus Day weekend to attend a rally supporting immigration enforcement, Sunday, October 10th in San Antonio, Texas at Alamo Plaza in front of the Alamo.
The event, entitled "Alamo Rising", will celebrate the accomplishments and the continued challenges to combat illegal immigration. Attendees are coming from across the nation to support the enforcement of immigration laws and to demand that action be taken in the border state of Texas. Illegal immigration, drug smuggling and transporting of potential terrorists through Texas affect all states of the union.
Voice of the People USA, based out of Hazleton, PA is organizing the event with major sponsors including DiggersRealm.com, Texas Sons of Liberty and the National Veterans Coalition.
"All polls show that the majority of Americans want immigration laws enforced. Opponents are casting citizens who want secure borders, national security and interior enforcement as racists, but they couldn't be more wrong," said Dan Smeriglio, President of Voice of the People USA. "We're going to show that Americans support the rule of law and demand its enforcement".
Actions taken opposing SB1070 in Arizona by Attorney General Eric Holder, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and President Barack Obama has led to an outpouring of demands that the federal government stop playing games with the crisis on illegal immigration. Recently the Obama Administration included Arizona's SB1070 in its Human Rights Report to the United Nations, this has further led many to believe that the federal government is more concerned with the people of the world than the citizens of the United States - those who they are under oath to serve and protect.
"This is the most welcoming country on Earth if you come here legally," said Dan Amato, of the immigration enforcement website Digger's Realm. "It is also the most humane when it comes to human rights. To somehow categorize a law enforcing immigration as a human rights violation is a total slap in the face to the citizens of this country. Who are these people working for?".
The "Alamo Rising" rally is grassroots, with all organizing funds coming from individual donations throughout the country. Motorcycle clubs with hundreds of members are also coming from many states and being organized by the Texas Sons of Liberty. Organizers say this is in sharp contrast to rallies that have been put together by those in support of illegal immigration and amnesty.
"Protests held by those supporting illegal aliens have been bought and paid for by well-funded unions and ethnocentric groups with an agenda. Some of these groups have even paid their attendees and included openly pro-communist organizations," Smeriglio said. "We cannot stand by and watch. We encourage all citizens to stand and celebrate our successes and rally with us for future victories. Join us on 10-10-10 at The Alamo."
